I'm the OP with some updated information on the new whites-only refugee policy. The NYT recently published a report that provides insight into the thinking of the administration as it reportedly considers a major overhaul of the country's refugee system. The documents they obtained suggest that "the changes would give preference to specific groups, including English speakers, white South Africans, and Europeans who oppose migration." | I’m not sure what European groups this policy has in mind who would be interested in coming here as “refugees.” Why would someone give up basic benefits that are available to most Europeans but not to all Americans—such as universal healthcare, paid maternity leave, free or subsidized post-secondary education, access to 1st trimester abortion in a way that doesn’t treat it as a crime, subsidized childcare, and more than 10 days of PTO per year? |

I'm not sure how the White Christian Nationalism issue could be a bigger issue than it is. People are physically fighting in the streets every day. |

As far as I know, no government or private group has published numbers of potentially qualified or interested refugees under this program. And the experience of this year indicates that there never will be any, except maybe Pam Bondi saying "100 million" |

The wording of the proclamation suggests that, but also is limited by the fact that Trump can all remember one country's name at a time, so it's officially "South Africa and others" |

Sounds like a good plan. Time for the rest of the world needs to step up. 7,500 sounds like a fair share for the US to take on.
And I’m not seeing where the lying news is getting that they will all be white South Africans. Sure, some will be, but that is simply because white South Africans are facing violence, racism, and discrimination in South Africa. |
