About 3.5 inches. |
I don't get the "based on parental height" bit. You know that isn't how it works right? |
How many inches did you all see when say had growth spurt before? 4+ ? |
4 inches so far. DD started her period at 10 though and was one of her first signs of puberty. She was 5 feet and now 5’4. I imagine she’s done.
I was the same. Started at 11 and was only 4’8 at the time. I grew another 6 inches. |
Don’t most girls get their periods at 10-11. Very few 10 year olds are even 5 feet tall. Among my Dads friends, I can think of only one in that range. Most of them are probably 4’8 or thereabouts. If it was really only a couple inches after that, we’d have an awful lot more sun 5 foot tall women walking around than we actually do. |
Interesting. Would you have married him if he got the short genes? Say he was 5'5 and his sisters were 6'0? |
well, your premise is flawed - "10-11" isn't average a quick search says it DROPPED to 11.9 |
Adult height is predicted based on one's own personal growth curve, constructed from data points throughout childhood. The heights of the parents are secondary, even though genetics strongly influence growth, because parental height is only a loose predictor of their children's height. These days pediatricians can be quite accurate in predicting adult height. Girls' periods are not a factor in that prediction. So look at your kid's growth curve. |
Except when you're in a sport that benefits from some height! My swimmer DD is really concerned about how tall she's going to be. . .hasn't hit a growth spurt yet and wondering if she's just going to be short or just a late bloomer. |
Two inches per year for two years after her period starts. Then maybe another inch or two thereafter until age 15.
My children are both shorter than my husband and I. Genetics. He’s 5”10. I’m 5”5. Kids are 5”2 and 5”3. We both have tall and short people on each side. I guess the genes went strictly shorter. |
Speaking for myself, I grew 5 inches the year before I got my period at 12.5 and 5'4, 85 lbs. Beanpole. Grew one more inch and filled out in the next year or so. |
Predicted height based on growth curve and parents, 5'9. 'Twas not to be. |
About half an inch, and she's deeply salty about being 5'4.5" when her parents are 5'8" and 5'10". |
Have you heard of something called Constitutional Growth Delay? Both my husband and I were 'late bloomers', and our kids have been as well. I got my period when I was 13, and that year I grew from 4'11" to five foot seven. Yes, eight inches in one year.
My husband and my son were still growing in college as was one of our daughters. We mentioned our concerns about our daughter's growth to our pediatrician and he did a bone scan on her wrist to see if the growth plates had closed yet when she was in high school and still hadn't hit five feet. That's when he told us about constitutional growth delay. Here's a good article if this seems like something that might be going on in your family as well: https://pedsendo.org/patient-resource/constitutional-growth-delay/ |
I grew 5 inches after getting my period. I was almost 14. I’m still short though 5’1. My daughter had her period at 10 and grew about 3 inches. She is also 5’1 now as an adult. |
