Speaking for myself, I grew 5 inches the year before I got my period at 12.5 and 5'4, 85 lbs. Beanpole. Grew one more inch and filled out in the next year or so. |
Predicted height based on growth curve and parents, 5'9. 'Twas not to be. |
About half an inch, and she's deeply salty about being 5'4.5" when her parents are 5'8" and 5'10". |
Have you heard of something called Constitutional Growth Delay? Both my husband and I were 'late bloomers', and our kids have been as well. I got my period when I was 13, and that year I grew from 4'11" to five foot seven. Yes, eight inches in one year.
My husband and my son were still growing in college as was one of our daughters. We mentioned our concerns about our daughter's growth to our pediatrician and he did a bone scan on her wrist to see if the growth plates had closed yet when she was in high school and still hadn't hit five feet. That's when he told us about constitutional growth delay. Here's a good article if this seems like something that might be going on in your family as well: https://pedsendo.org/patient-resource/constitutional-growth-delay/ |
I grew 5 inches after getting my period. I was almost 14. I’m still short though 5’1. My daughter had her period at 10 and grew about 3 inches. She is also 5’1 now as an adult. |
My pediatrician has referred multiple times to a formula involving parental height. Something like dad’s height minus 5 inches averaged with mom’s height for a girl and mom’s height plus 6 inches averaged with dad’s height for a boy. OP here. So yes on average, it seems that if often how it works. Not 100% but can be used to estimate. |
OP here and DD cares because if her sport. |
That’s me. And some of my cousins. |
I don’t get what’s wrong with that. She right in the middle of “within normal limits”. I think between 5’4” and 5’7” is the sweet spot. Any height is fine but she’s got a very normal height and hopefully she’ll appreciate it one day. |
Maybe some girls are getting their big growth spurt after their first period. My daughter’s friends, about six of them, got their periods in the 5th grade at ten years old. They were all similar height including my daughter, they were all about 5 feet and it was doubtful that they were done growing. My daughter got her period at 13 and had the growth spurt before her period. A few months after starting her period she’s now 5’6” - 5’7” and I have no idea if she’s done growing but if she did it would be very small, an inch at the most. Her friends who got their periods at 10 years old have grown after their periods started, they are probably between 5’3” and 5’5” in height. They did not stay short even with a period at ten years old. If there is still a difference in ethnicities two friends are Brazilian, one from Guatemala, on Black and two White. None of them are overweight. |
