| I’m an alcoholic and it is clear why no one knew. Most posters seem to have a vaudeville idea of what an alcoholic looks like. |
These responses are nuts. |
| Red eyes? My high-functioning parent's eyes are always red. They also can't walk strait as the day progresses. |

Maybe look up the meaning of "can be" and "other causes." Not everything is about you. |
If you don’t look like W.C. Fields, you’re not an alcoholic apparently! |

People knew. I can tell if my alcoholic mother speaks one single word to me. The tone of her voice immediately gives it away. This thread asked for physical signs so people shared this. I hate an alcoholic who thinks they had everyone fooled. You didn’t. |
Sorry for your trauma but this is BS. People definitely didn’t know the extent of my drinking and this thread shows why. The responses are cartoonish. I bet your mother is drinking much more than you know. Alcoholics are experts at hidden drinking. By the time they lose control of hiding it, they are many drinks in. |
No, alcoholics THINK they are experts at hiding their addiction. This thread asked for physical/facial signs, and is somewhat limited in its replies as a result. But no, sweetie, you're not hiding anything. You reek, you sound drunk, your constant need to bail at the last minute or just no-call, no-show is a tell, your instarage at the slightest slight... your disease is literally oozing out of your pores, on your breath, and behind your eyes. Alcoholics aren't fooling anyone but themselves. |
