What are the physical/facial signs of an alcoholic?

So many other things can cause this. Many medications will cause a puffy, bloated red face. People with allergies can experience this.

Overall there is no way to diagnose someone with alcoholism based on facial look/features.

The majority of the responses here are beyond stupid.

My face was red and puffy from a thyroid disorder, rosacea and sun damage. So it could be other things.

+1 I am on prednisone and have facial bloating, redness, sweating. I'm also Northern European and prone to rosacea

Season allergies cause all of this.

You can’t tell by looking at people. Unless they are riding a lawnmower down the road as transport, that’s a good sign.

Exactly. Many autoimmune disorders cause everything being described in these posts. Many medications can cause them. People should not assume alcoholism unless they see the person drunk. My sil looked like so many of these descriptions when she was going through chemo for breast cancer. I can see these idiots hurting innocent people dealing with medical issues.

Real nice - every facial feature of middle aged middle class women who can't afford to prioritize being thin, reducing inflammation, or getting cosmetic surgery - all alcoholics!

How else do you get your lawn mower to the gas station?

I’m in perimenopause and my face gets very red after drinking one glass of wine. One. So please don’t assume red face = alcoholic.

Sure. During seasonal allergy time. If I see the same person casually knocking back whiskey at lunch or spiking their coffee I’m guessing that’s not Allegra territory.

Cmon. Of course there are other reasons for puffy or red faces. Or ashy waxen ones. But it’s also pretty clear something is not well with someone when they look like this. It may not be booze, but it sure could be. Not every alcoholic has an outward tell either.

DP. You think we take it because we enjoy it? If I don't take it, my body will be "destroyed" more quickly.
