New Additions to Leagues Check Up (ECNL & GA)

Short answer: a full ECNL–Girls Academy merger under U.S. Soccer is unlikely in the near term, but partial convergence is very much in motion. Think gravitational pull, not a sudden collision.

What this release signals clearly is U.S. Soccer reclaiming architectural authority over the competition ecosystem. For years, the pyramid sprawled sideways: ECNL, GA, NPL, National League, MLS NEXT, all optimizing locally, none fully interoperable. Remember, the DMV is not a reflection of the nation, just our own personal bubble hell. My theory is probably unlikely, but that is essentially how the boys are setup today. It would be interesting if in this integrated pyramid they establish a hierarchy/ pathway.

It's going to mirror college with D1 D2 D3 levels and different geographies will have their own regional league where either all clubs independent of league play each other. Or regional leagues are split out and Finals are where leagues play each other.

and then in 4 years a bunch of clubs will get pissy and feel they are too good for everyone else and will want to split out so they can call themselves something more superior and lock it all down again as a closed system and we start the cycle over again.

I think if ECNL and GA merge, it'll just be the top clubs from both -- just like always. The rest of the mid-tier strivers will have to duke it out for a few spots while the rest end up back in various regional leagues.

What in DA, ECNL, MLS history would cause you to think they will merge? They will try to destroy each other as they have always done. Too much money involved.

Read back a few pages. Some people apparently think all these deals for US Soccer to operate the behind the scenes stuff for US Club and the USYS means US Soocer will get all of them to start competing and eventually merge.
