Why are 80% of the "refugees" men? Where are the women, children and elderly.

There is a reason these "migrants" are not going to Muslim countries. Has anyone else noticed that the migrants are 80% men? But the media searches for a woman with a child to take a photo of? Yeah, the underlying meaning of OP's post is obvious. But I agree that the media loves to focus on the few women and children and seems to paint all the crowds we see on the news as refugees rather than economic migrants. Disingenuous.

Similar to any migratory pattern, including when European men came to America. Men are generally the main breadwinners, and migrate to jobs.

Have you ever taken a history class? Economics course? Social science class? Picked up a book on any of these subjects? Thought about it in your own mind for a bit?

How about don't worry about that. How about just send good thoughts toward people suffering and desperate, or pray for them. How about donating to the Red Cross or another charity?

Or even just turn away but don't question or disparage those less fortunate than you?

My thinking was that the women - whose main job was housekeeping and child care - and children were sent to live with relatives as soon as things got bad. Their DHs stayed, now they will migrate and then have their families join them.

Almost all migrants are men. They go and find work, live rough, and then when things stabilize, they can build a home.
It's true internally in the United States. Men go to the oil fields and then send for their spouses/families. Men go to Alaska.
It was true in the 1800's and the 1900's. It was true for the Irish, the Germans, the Chinese, the Jews, the Swedes, and it was true for the English.

What in the world is new here?

Op, immigrants to the US in the early 1900s were disproportionately men. Also, many diaspora have been composed of yound healthy men. The journey is often too hard for others. What is left behind is a needy population.

I think the question is, if these are truly mostly refugees from war and not economic migrants, then wouldn't there be more women and kids? Yes, economic migrants tend to be men first.

For example, if you look at some of the old pictures of Vietnamese refugees, or in any war, you see a lot of women and children, too.

In the recent case in Europe, it does appear, based on pictures of crowds, that you see more men than any other group. Where are families of these men? Are most of these men single?

I agree with OP, if these were true refugees there would be women and children. There are obviously families in many of the pictures, but there should be way more women and children unless the men are just dumping them off somewhere to die.

I think the migrants should be helped, but there really needs to be some organization in place ensuring the families, women, children and elderly or sick get first priority and the healthy single men and women wait their turn.
