Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano said Monday that a grand jury recently indicted Brendan Banfield on one count of felony child abuse and neglect and one count of felony child cruelty tied to the slayings.

Descano said in a statement, “Additional information has come to light over the course of our investigation, and we believe these additional charges reflect the events that occurred in the house on that day. My office is committed to bringing the strongest case possible against Brendan Banfield for the alleged murders of Christine Banfield and Joseph Ryan.”

The indictments allege that Banfield’s actions on the day of the deaths involved his daughter, who was at the scene, and were criminal in nature. Banfield’s trial date is set for Feb. 3, 2025.

A woman believed to be the au pair first stated her friend was hurt, before the man, who was husband of the household, got on the line and stated he shot an unknown man who entered his home and stabbed his wife.

The woman, according to police, was the husband's wife, while the man who died was a non-resident of the home.

Davis said a 4-year-old girl was also in the home when they arrived. The child is now safe with police, Davis said.

Thanks for sharing this! It's good the district attorney's office is clearly trying to stack everything they can against brendan, and it's good for his child as well to maybe get away from the banfield family all together one day. We can all hope this. Someone posted not guilty under the posted video. Clearly that is someone who is a troll, part of their family, or insane.

I hope Christine's and Joe's family and friends find this news comforting today.

Are there details on what he did to the child? Like did they detain her in the basement? Or are they saying the abuse is just that they brought her into the home while murdering people (because that IS abusive, poor poor baby)

They left her alone in the basement while they murdered her mother and another man. She likely heard the gunshots!

Although the abuse/neglect charges are solid I really think the prosecution is trying to do right by the Benson (CB's maiden name) family and their rightful claim for custody of the child. BB's mother has made a lot of noise online and has tampered with and intimidated the AP. All the while it appears the Benson family has been working quietly and without publicity through the legal system--like responsible adults.

And to a PP’s ?, they left her in basement with a gate on the stairs while they went up to commit premeditated murder of her mom and the man they lured. Then AP moved into Mommy’s bed.

The trial is going to be televised on court tv, and also a local station is recording the trial fully, and putting it on their website to watch in its entirety. I know that dateline is doing a short form documentary after the fact, and I assume Nancy Grace will report on it also. There are several long form and short documentary companies that are going to do full docs on the case. It may or may not include any court recording but it will have a great deal of coverage. Typically docs and shows do not put out their end product until after the hearings occur, as reputable companies don’t want to have an effect on the trial outcomes, and they want to give a full story. There is no doubt there will be many vlogs following the case since they already have. It will be a long wait for the actual trial as it’s clear BB is asking for an extension since the flipping of the nanny. It likely wont happen until the summer now or even fall.
