Frankly, most ambassadors to important nations are woefully underqualified as they are always given as plums to political allies and supporters. This has been true for generations and it gets worse with eavg administration. The experienced highly qualified diplomats in civil service end up going to places like Malawi because nobody thinks that's a plum post. If it isn't Pete, it will be somebody older but with no better knowledge of China. |

Yes! The US-China relationship is one of the most important dynamics in the world. The mayor of a college town would be the perfect fit for Ambassador! At least Trump picked a governor with ties to Xi. Give Pete Ambassador to France or something. |

Not really. I don't think Biden has much choice. Trump screwed up every agency, he needs people who have already been there to fix it. |
