You should have quit while you were ahead, OP.

I like OP even more now she deserved that laugh

I admit, I would want the suit. If my son does not wear special suits at the beach he will develop a rash. I could see us being in a one suit situation at the beginning of the year (not wanting to buy more than one until we know it fits right). No amount of money would fix it, as the suit has to be bought online.

If another child had mistakenly taken your DS's special suit the day before you were leaving for the beach, then if for some reason the mother of the child who took it could not come to you, would you go to her to pick it up? It wasn't the other woman's child's mistake (or at least, nobody actually knows), but she could have solved the problem if OP could not.

I agree that OP could've done more to return the suit, but if it was that important to the bathing suit mom she should've just met the OP at the school to get the suit, once she saw OP was unwilling to drive to her or meet her halfway at a later hour. The fact that she didn't suggest that herself means his was less about her being in a bad predicament than about her just being inflexible and kind of nasty.

They clearly wanted the swim trunks returned--not money to replace them.

Next time use your noggin: uber.

I have to say it sounds like you had enough time to leave them on their porch with all the scheming and wine opening you were doing. Why didn't friend's husband offer to watch your kids while you went?

Okie dokie.

I can assure you OP did way more than I would've in this situation.

And if I were there other mom, my kid would have just swam in some lightweight shorts until we procured him a pair of trunks.

What exactly did the OP do?

She (with the help of others) gave the other woman $30, hand-delivered, to buy a suit on their vacation. Hand-delivering same-size same-print suit would have been ideal, but twas not to be.

Again, what did OP do?

We did think of uber! According to my friend, uber will not deliver goods. They have a service called uberRUSH that is a a delivery service but it is only in select cities, and not here yet. Admittedly I did not check this info, but just took her word for it. Apparently some uber drivers will do it but they are not licensed for it and are not supposed to do it.
In any even it would have been very expensive I think.

Are you, OP? You seem to let your friends do a lot of your work for you.

Because asking someone to drive almost 2 hours to return a $10 swimsuit is utterly ridiculous. I wouldn't have done it either.

Not OP. I've heard of couriers that carry things to other countries. How do I find one in DC, and would expensive would that be?

What special suit are you getting at target that isn't causing a rash?

I just had a flashback to 1989, with the guys on bikes carrying things all over town! You missed a lot in the "olden" days, PP.
