They clearly wanted the swim trunks returned--not money to replace them.

Next time use your noggin: uber.

I have to say it sounds like you had enough time to leave them on their porch with all the scheming and wine opening you were doing. Why didn't friend's husband offer to watch your kids while you went?

Yeah, this is a good point. It does sound like you had plenty of people around who could have watched your kids sleep or something.

It doesn't matter. A 2-hour round trip to return a swimsuit is a ridiculous request. If they need it before Monday they can buy another one.

But they agreed to meet her halfway in the evening, which she said she couldn't do because it was late and kids were sleeping, but it sounds like she actually had a lot of people around ready and willing to help, and really was just drinking. I don't know ...

The people were there at 8. She could have asked them to stay until 11 to watch her kids for her. They might have said yes and opened another bottle. Or maybe they had stuff at home they needed to get to.

They could only meet halfway at 10:00. I think that would've been doable, though a huge inconvenience.

The update makes you and your friends sound insufferable. It's unfortunate that you are letting this Mom's "craziness" outweigh doing the right thing.

Okie dokie.

I can assure you OP did way more than I would've in this situation.

And if I were there other mom, my kid would have just swam in some lightweight shorts until we procured him a pair of trunks.

How do you know so many people who know each other and even know the other mom even though she lives so far away and is new?
Anonymous
If this other family lives so far away from the school and it's community the burden falls on them to drive the long stretches. Certainly in a situation like this.
Anonymous
OP quickly went from "poor temporarily single mom with sleeping baby" to "scheming and laughing life of the party."

You should have quit while you were ahead, OP.

What exactly did the OP do?

She (with the help of others) gave the other woman $30, hand-delivered, to buy a suit on their vacation. Hand-delivering same-size same-print suit would have been ideal, but twas not to be.

Agreed. Not exactly a sympathetic person.

Who only has one swimsuit?! That is bizarre.

OMG I love dcum.

I did not read all the posts, but is anyone questioning the " accidental" part of her son taking it? If it was an accident, how did the other kid know who had it?

I admit, I would want the suit. If my son does not wear special suits at the beach he will develop a rash. I could see us being in a one suit situation at the beginning of the year (not wanting to buy more than one until we know it fits right). No amount of money would fix it, as the suit has to be bought online.
