Yeah the tattoo was hideous and an odd choice for an actor. It’s a huge tattoo, not something easy to cover up with makeup as an actor. I don’t know what he was thinking. He said it has lots of meaning for him as it represents a phoenix rising above the ashes and people memed it as asses. J Lo and Ben were stuck at a flat tire once and people poked fun of the tatooo and said it looked like a tramp stamp.

All that ridicule probably isn’t good for a person battling alcoholism and depression.

Never a bad word? He said he felt trapped in the marriage because he had kids.

That wasn’t anything bad about Jen. That was his feelings about his own position of being in the marriage. Wanting out of a marriage because it isn’t working and feeling conflicted about that doesn’t mean the same as talking badly about someone. He is allowed to have feelings about his own life.

Of course. And you share those feelings in therapy, and with your closest friends. It is incredibly disrespectful to the mother of your children to share that with Howard Stern.

Agree. It’s the way he put things and the word trapped… It makes it seem like it’s beyond his control. What did he do to contribute to being in a marriage that was bad and needed to end? What did he do to rectify the situation and see if they could save the marriage?

He wasn’t willing to get help. His solution to feeling trapped was having an exit affair with the nanny and humiliating the mother of his children. Then running around with a 22 year-old rando who happily let him drink.

The whole thing was just very passive. He’s allowed to have feelings about it, but the way he phrased it and of course his actions in the years that followed - he absolutely was not taking responsibility.

Right, it's all in the framing. A person who was taking responsibility for his own actions might have said, "We were having difficulties in our marriage and instead of dealing with the problem and facing difficult feelings, I chose to avoid the problem by drinking. Obviously this made the situation worse." Instead he framed it by pointing the blame for his drinking on his family for keeping him "trapped" in a failing marriage.

It was not a recorded interview, it was a written one. The writer would have put the best spin on it, for coverage / discussion, like this one.

It's clear they were on an emotional high. They were very caught up in being in love and really did think this was forever. They didn't think they needed to date any longer because they really thought they would be together forever anyway, so they thought "Why not make it official?".

People shouldn't make major life decisions (like marriage) when they're in emotional highs, such as the honeymoon phase of a relationship. I'm surprised no one in their life told them rushing into marriage is a recipe for disaster. Not surprised this crashed and burned fast.

Her pr team is saying Ben wanted the house. Ben's team denied this and said it was too far away from Brentwood.

“His life’s in Brentwood. His kids live there," the source says. "It was such a pain and time consuming for Ben to navigate traffic from their house. He never liked it.”

The same source notes that the house Affleck rented this summer after moving out of their shared home was located in Brentwood.
