But instead, they will end up making dumb, rushed decisions without any consideration for students and their families. Uprooting long standing school communities to justify their idiocracy. It’s not too late for the school board and Reid to admit they botched this whole thing. The larger FCPS community should ensure these members NEVER get elected to any office again. They have proven their incompetence beyond a reasonable doubt.

You act as though the current maps are perfect just because you don't like the new changes as much as the status quo. The current situation is and has been bad. They have things like the Navy island that make zero sense. Schools are overcrowded. We have needed a new, traditional, high school in this area for decades. Chantilly and Westfield kids shouldn't be going to school in a trailer park. These first passes by XYZ have lots of illogical moves, and the 4 previous scenarios were more well thought out by the end of Thru's process.
There will be people on here loudly complaining no matter what the final map chosen is. Best we can hope for is to expose the people like the RIO group who have managed to secure special treatment and get something logical so the only people complaining are the ones who made the most sense (for the county as a whole) to be moved and just don't like the outcome.

Did you respond to the wrong post or can you not read? I never said the current map was ok. I said the entire process has been a complete joke. The only reason new maps were produced is because the School Board and Superintendent were too scared of ppl like RIO to move forth with the initial proposals which have now proven to be the most correct proposal of that even matters. It’s like when you take a test, your first answer is typically the correct one.

The School Board is incompetent and full of individuals who can’t make a sound decision because they are too busy playing politics for their future aspirations. Every single one of them would have been fired if this was a real company and not FCPS. No job would tolerate this level of incompetence. That’s why they sent out an email today trying to cover for their incompetence, but voters will remember who not to vote for in the future.

+1. Michelle Reid is horribly, horribly incompetent and the damage she is doing to FCPS’s reputation will linger long after she is gone.

Make Westfield an open enrollment school. I’m sure their football, basketball and wrestling teams will attract a bunch of students.

This is not a competition.

Skyview will 50% full of Westfield kids and some of its most challenging.

Exactly, but "it'll be as good if not better than oakton." Ok.

So you admit you’re worried about the makeup of kids at Skyview and that’s why you won’t move even though your entire community is within 3-4 miles of Skyview.

Hi RIO parent. Thanks for admitting that you think your kid is too good to have to deal with what you think would be a terrible situation, but it’s ok for other people’s kids.

This is the entire crux of why Oakton parents are fighting the move. They will pretend it’s the sports, the curriculum, the other activities, etc. They will never admit out loud that it’s the demographics. Especially the parents of younger kids fighting the move. They know all those things will be in place by the time their kids would attend. I have zero respect for parents who pretend to support public schools as long as their kids don’t have to go to school with “those kids”. At least own it and shell out for private school if you feel that way. This area is truly full of some of the worst people in the country.

What is challenging about kids who just want to reunite with their friends from Carson?

It’s so pathetic of you to call her lame for advocating for her kid’s to remain in the pyramid that she chose for them.

This is how public school hemorrhages support.

It’s Rooted in Oakton, a parent group that was started by Crossfield parents that opposed being moved to Skyview. There are rumors that a mom in that group works at Gatehouse and lobbied insiders to keep Crossfield at Oakton.

The thinking is because Crossfield is at Oakton, they had to take more students from Westfield to fill Skyview, and in return that’s why Bull Run and Lees Corner entered the picture to be moved to Westfield.

That is faulty logic though. Skyview was always going to include Floris, McNair, Oak Hill, and Coates. Backfilling Westfield has been debated on these boards long before the first scenarios were released and long before RIO.

Yes, always Floris, McNair, Coates and Oak Hill. But the original scenarios had either Fox Mill or Crossfield going as well and that makes logical sense.

Lots of Fox Mill families are happy to move. We don’t want the ES split up like it is in the various scenarios but are happy to move to Skyview. No protest here.

That would be logical! Not sure why your school is being sliced and diced.

This is not true, though, and makes no sense. If you look at all of the old maps, the school from Westfield (Floris, McNair, Coates) have ALWAYS been on the maps. The part of Floris that stayed at Westfield on one map is literally walking distance to Skyview and should have been on all the maps (it is now). Crossfield has absolutely nothing to do with the Centreville to Westfield changes. You can blame Floris, McNair, and Coates if you want, but those schools are also by far the furthest away from Westfield and the closest to Skyview.

I just don't understand this argument. Why is it ok for your kids to go to the same middle school as these kids but not high school? My children have been just fine at Rachel Carson, and no, none of them are AAP.

Crossfield not wanting to move is not the reason for Westfield being backfilled. As other posters have said, floris, McNair, and Coates have always been listed as schools to move to Skyview. That meant backfilling from Centreville, which helps relieve the overcrowding at Centreville. Oak Hill has always been listed as moving to Skyview, relieving overcrowding at Chantilly.

The purpose of Skyview is to relieve overcrowding at Chantilly and Centreville, the plans do that. The fact that folks at Centreville were not paying attention is mind boggling.

There have been multiple threads on behavior at Carson this year with parents freaking out at how dangerous the school was. You can guess what students were blamed.

I actually love this idea.

Its solid. Not enough students live nearby to fill the seats. Put a magnet in. TJ West.

Wow. Yes. As a Floris parent I don't like the commute to Westfield but it's so much better than TJ.

I’ve long heard rumors that Skyview is going to be a twice exceptional (2E) magnet program. I don’t know why that has to be Skyview though. Maybe that could be Westfield instead?
