Gaza war and College Campus Protests

This is not surprising. Within Hamas itself, there are some who support the two state solution. The 2017 updated charter of Hamas extended an olive branch and recognized 1967 borders and Israel’s right to exist /two states with the condition of no new settlements and stopping settlements in the WB. Netanyahu ignored and increased settlements instead

The current obsession with calling out any-Semitism on college campuses is just Israeli propaganda and Republican pre-election pandering. Israeli Jews cannot commit a genocide in Gaza and then complain when their behavior stokes global anti-Semitism. And Jewish critics of Israel would be better served by using their influence to effect change in Israel than complaining about anti-Semitism, which is in an issue but not one remotely as deserving of attention right now as the mass slaughter and dispossession of Palestinians by Israel.

It may feel unfair or hit too close to home for Jewish Americans who genuinely oppose Israel’s policies and actions, but why is criticizing any Jewish American who unconditionally supports Israel even an issue worthy of discussion? Why would that even constitute actual anti-semitism?

I completely, unequivocally reject Greenblatt’s over-reach on the definition, but even if you (incorrectly) believe that it constitutes bias, why are we even allowing anti-semitism to be elevated above other biases? Why are we allowing our federal and legislative branches to embarrass us on the global stage by spending the past year running interference for a foreign state and demonizing those who have genuine, legitimate concerns over atrocities being committed with our backing and funding?

Israel, a nation that has co-opted (hijacked?) the Jewish culture and religion, is a global pariah. If the leadership of Israel want to identify themselves as “the Jewish state” and Jewish Americans who unconditionally support Israel’s policies and actions want to make Israel’s “Jewish-ness” the central aspect of the state’s identity, why is any criticism of Israel that happens to catch Jews in the crosshairs objectionable to them?

Remember, criticism. Acting on criticisms and encroaching on the rights of others is a different matter altogether.

Meanwhile, Israel HAS committed horrific atrocities against the Palestinian population for decades. Israel’s actions DO constitute ethnic cleansing if not outright genocide. Israel HAS defiantly refused to follow international law, and there are a litany of other Israeli policies and actions that the world DOES find morally repugnant and unacceptable.

As children, most of us are taught that our actions have consequences. The act of unconditionally supporting ANYTHING has consequences. I’m perplexed that Israel and the U.S. government can only seem to come to grips with that fact when it applies to others. Why?

That's one lesson, I suppose.

The other possible conclusion is that every time Palestinians and their Arab allies attack Israel, they lose and Israel takes advantage.

1947-48 ring a bell?

Palestinians HAD a state under 181, then they effed it up.

Similarly, Chinese-Americans cannot complain when they are targeted by bigots in the US. After all, they're of Chinese ancestry and the Chinese government does terrible things.

The ones who unconditionally support policies and actions of China that rise to Israel’s level of depravity?

Abso-f’ing-lutely!

And to be clear, it’s not just American Jews who UNCONDITIONALLY support Israel’s policies and actions who deserve condemnation. It is EVERYONE who unconditionally supports ANYTHING who deserve condemnation. Unconditional support, after all, is the domain of the world’s absolute worst people.

If the Chinese commit a genocide in Taiwan and millions of Chinese-Americans proudly boast of the need for reunification and the legitimacy of the Chinese government's actions, we'll have something to discuss. Until then, centering the feelings of Jews worried about a resurgence of anti-Semitism when Jews in Israel are murdering tens of thousands of innocent Palestinians (and now Lebanese) is just gross and indulgent.

Take issue with the terms “bigot” and “targeted” in your hypothetical, neither of which apply to anything written in the PP.

I center Americans, regardless of their religion.

You do you.

On the contrary, they apply directly to PP’s point.

Jews are being targeted by bigots in the US right now.

So are Muslims.

But by PP’s logic, that’s ok.
