SYC big announcement

^^^That’s just on the boys side-CCL 1 for the girls is a trash league, about to be more watered down with the departure of Loudoun and Arlington, who are moving to ECNL-R.

And the uniforms for next year-ugh. Basic black and white with orange and green socks. Gross.

ECNL is for serious players and their development. If you’re frustrated because you’re not promised, you should reconsider the your priorities.

This. Been burned by bloated rosters and very little playing time. Went down to NC to see my DD play a total of 20 mins in two games. She no longer plays soccer. Younger DD staying away from this situation.

This. Not for serious players (and that’s okay).

From my understanding the McLean players won't be able to tryout for the MLS Next teams. When they say dual roster they're talking about select players on the Green team dual roster with the ECNL team.

On the boys side I see McLean taking the top 11 from each team and then opening up the 11+ other spots to better players whether they are from SYC or not. Their goal is to make the McLean team's very competitve in ECNL.

There's going to be a big shakeup on the Green and White teams cause the players that don't make ECNL will tryout for the Green and White teams and take positions away from those existing players. Do those 11 ECNL players that were cut fill positions on the Green team?

It sucks cause now everyone is scrambling to get into other area club tryouts in May when ECNL teams can hold official tryouts. What's really sad is I do see a lot of players hanging it up because of this shakeup.

Another thing that sucks is politics and I'm sure some incentives/kickbacks to have your kid on the ECNL team are happening. I know for a fact that a player on one of the team's is there solely because the parent and coach know one another outside of the club. The player isn't ECNL level, but is only there because of that relationship. And I'm sure the parents that volunteer in the team management positions are also getting priority for ECNL. I've never been one to kiss the coaches ass so my kid will stay on the team but I'm sure those parents are leveraging that.

Another thing McLean needs to do is stop having kids play up a year. Kids should be playing their age group to strengthen that age group's team and just have them practice with the older team.

Anyhow, lots of kids will be affected by this which in the end just really sucks.

I am pretty sure dual roster is MLS/ ECNL--not green team (or SYC's second team) based on how it was described. They are taking the top kids across both teams and dual rostering them.

Green stays green (unless they have somebody who is good enough to move up).

This changes things radically for the Green team because in the past, the top 1-2 Green players could dual roster and move up. With SYC dual rostering with ECNL, that option likely goes away. Same for SYC second team.

For current ECNL playes, the biggest downer about this is team dynamic--you are now a part of a larger team playing acros two leagues (which could have its positives and negatives). My kid likes having a smaller close knit team. But on the flip side, being able to play in MLS is attractive (we prefer ECNL for many reasons, but getting to play new teams in a different league is always a good thing)...

If my kid was got to play both ECNL and MLS I would see that as a good thing vs if my kid was dual rostered on ECNL /And the B team or MLS and the B team.

Between MLS and ECNL it’s kind of like two A teams so who cares?

SO will only the top ECNL players be dual rostered on MLS Next? And the top MLS Next players be rostered on ECNL? But they will have a primary team? I'm confused. My DS is a top 6-7 ECNL player. Does he get to play both games now?

They're saying that now, but logistically they don't have a legitimate plan for it. They're selling it this way now, but will never materialize.

That's nothing I know a lot more shady things are going on. I hope the club cleans this up cause it's not fair but then again life isn't fair. Also, it's sad MYS doesn't push respect, honor, integrity as core club values for its coaches and players

Double the uniform costs. Yay!

Agree. No one is policing the club and how it operates (except fiscally) so I'm sure there's a lot of corrupt and shady things going on.

MYS parents it's time to start kissing butt so you can keep your kid in ECNL. Breakout those checkbooks, leverage those outside of the club relationships, and start moving on securing your kid's spot on the roster. Time to throw ethics out the door and do what's needed to secure that spot.

It's funny how we only see this through the eyes of MYS, but this whole merger thing will be a flop. SYC parents don't want to travel to McLean for practices nor will they want to have to an extra $1000 dollars to have them play ECNL. Like I said it will be a big flop and go no where.

This merger is pure consolidation for survival of the few. There are too many soccer clubs in NoVa and there needs to be consolidation. Combining MYS with SYC creates economies of scale that benefits the survival of the club, not necessarily for benefits of all players. It’s like a merger of companies. Reduce costs because there can be one registration system, one website, one administration team. Better leverage for vendor relationships, field access. More fields and scale to make more money from tournaments. Everything else is secondary to these drivers. Either be one of the few large clubs or wither away.
Another strategy would be to go more niche and specialize. For example, only have girls teams or only boys or only older age groups with focus on college recruiting. MYS and SYC are trying for size. How many mega clubs can there be?

This post is incoherent. Why would McLean parents need to break out the check books to keep their spots if SYC parents arent going to be interested?

haha. $1000 more dollars. In your dreams. ECNL fees in a normal year can easily be 6-10k total by the time you add it all up.

2500 club fee
800 team fee (coach travel, tournament fees, refs, incidentals)
150 uniforms and gear
3-5k travel depending on how many showcases and if national playoffs
