some younger SYC teams are probably better than the McLean equivalent.

There is no ECNL in younger age groups. ECNL teams pull from multiple clubs. Don't expect a huge movement. There will be some players that will make an ECNL team, but keep in mind, ECNL teams draw from multiple clubs not just McLean and SYC.

PP stated that the teams will be McLean and SYC parents will be disappointed. I think there will be a lot of McLean parents in a few years wondering what happened when their kids lose out to SYC players.

Competition for ECNL places always existed. I have seen SYC kids at the try outs, some made ECNL teams, but not many. The coaches will take the player if they think he can help them win. The alliance does not change it.

This does change it. The teams can't be 90% McLean with only 2 SYC players. They will take more. Whether they get to step foot on an ECNL field for a game is less likely. The rosters will have to get even bigger now to support the SYC ECNL assistant coaches coming too. Expect the largest rosters in the area and the highest fees. Good job!

This seems totally dependent on boy vs. girl. The girls top teams at SYC aren’t great and probably won’t support a 50/50 split with McLean’s current player pool. The boys are another matter and could easily see a 50/50 split among many age groups, assuming the SYC boys want to join an ECNL team, that is!

that depends on the year, they younger SYC girls teams are very good compared to mclane- look that the 10s or 09s

Questions for McLean girls parents
1. How many girls on the 2002/2003 ECNL team are juniors and will be added to the 2004 team next year? The 2004 team already has 22 players
2. All of these U15 and older teams have 22 or more players. Does this list include their dual roster kids? Or are the additional?

1. There are a handful of 03 juniors that will continue with the oldest team next year.
2. In general, the ECNL rosters include everyone, but do not include guest players which surface from time to time.

Don't expect a lot of movement on the girls side. McLean teams have a lot more talent on the girls side and they get better coaching. I heard from parents on some ECLN girls teams that all practices will continue to be in McLean. There is no point to drive to Springfield if the vast majority of players live close to McLean fields. On the boys side, it is a different matter. SYC players can strengthen the teams but coaches will have to figure out how to blend direct physical style of SYC with McLean style.

The girls will have some shake ups . Its a field space priority that keeps them training in Mclean.
As for the boys What style does mclean bring to the table? I laughed at that statement. SYC will bring soccer talent not just physical style. Mclean needs help in all aspects of the game and benefit by bringing in SYC players. SYC benefits for quality field space and connections for showcase and scouting exposure.

So McLean will take top 3-6 players from SYC's top team to replace their fringe players. It's a win win for both clubs so long as the practices and games remain in McLean.

Remember when the McLean parents warned of large ECNL rosters? And parents were not believing it? Were all of you on the townhall that just concluded? What did they say. "ECNL Rosters allow for 30 players". Insane.

Not insane if you dual roster players as will likely happen.

That's 30 players for 2 teams- MLS Next and ECNL--I was actually wondering if that was enough to be honest.

Anything over 18 at the younger ages is crazy. At the older ages (U16 and up) you should never go over 22. Only 11 players can play. You do not need 30 players.

Parents-be very wary before you accept a spot on one of these bloated rosters. Ask if it is for Full ECNL or a dual roster spot. If you are a dual rostered player, you will be constantly frustrated by the dangling of the ECNL carrot which will never materialize.

And the uniforms for next year-ugh. Basic black and white with orange and green socks. Gross.

You certainly don't need over 18 players, but the club does ($$$)

Where are you getting this information? Is this something McLean put out for the ECNL team?

This. Been burned by bloated rosters and very little playing time. Went down to NC to see my DD play a total of 20 mins in two games. She no longer plays soccer. Younger DD staying away from this situation.

Isn’t the difference here though dual roster is different when it is MLS/ ECNL- both arguably the ‘top’ leagues (vs being dual rostered between a clubs A and B team). If my kid was got to play both ECNL and MLS I would see that as a good thing vs if my kid was dual rostered on ECNL /And the B team or MLS and the B team.

Between MLS and ECNL it’s kind of like two A teams so who cares?
