Bullis Lacrosse Situation

The Bullis 2016 team was a powerhouse as well (#5 in the nation or something like that). Shockey was dominant in 2017, but both teams in 2016 and 2017 were excellent. Would absolutely destroy anyone in this area in 2019.

The Prep 2014 was excellent. Really shows what a down year it was this year.

The GP team was very strong in 2014 but lost to St. Albans.

Landon 2017 was by far the best team to come out of this area in at least a decade.

Bullis in 2016 was also very strong, I believe their only lost was to the Hill Academy that season. Gonzaga 2016 was also very dominant that year as well.

LOL. There wasn't much difference between Landon 2017 and Bullis 2016. Both were excellent, top 5 quality. To say that Landon 2017 was by far the best team in the past decade is ridiculous.

GP 2014 would likely have been the #1 team in the nation if not for that STA upset. Great team.

He was forced out of Landon. It’s not secret Coach B didn’t like him.

He then went to Saint Andrews for two seasons and then abruptly jumped ship for SJC.

After 1.5 years at SJC he was let go for the black wolf guy.

He then ended up at Bullis and was part of the coup from DC Express who tried to force our Coach Bellistri.

The situation is they have been in the championship game the last 4 years and won 3 of them. That's a situation.

If you don't think most, if not all, schools recruit, you are naive. I have a son in 7th grade who is currently being recruited by 3 IAC schools and 3 WCAC schools. Calls from parents/boosters/alums/AD's and coaches. It starts with a question, "Are you interested in learning more about our school and program?" Once I said yes, game was/is on.

As for scholarships, yes please. Would love one. Thanks.

You are mistaken in your answer in that you are mixing up the 2 conferences.

The IAC does not allow financial assistance unless it is need based. If they want to change that, then fine but them's the rules at this date. Unless you are getting calls from IAC AD's or official school staff then it's not recruiting. It might feel really good as a parent but it's not recruiting. The IAC does this to try and protect the veil of competitive balance even though GP has won 16 out of the last 18 competition trophies (or whatever they call it). GP coaches get calls all the time saying "hey, my kid is a great player and what can you do for them." Their first response is to tell that person to make an official inquiry to the enrollment office.

The WCAC does allow athletic scholarships and recruiting. Perhaps it's better because it is out in the open and maybe Bullis should lobby harder to get the IAC to change their rules.

Could you imagine what the Ivy League would do to Yale if they suddennly announced they were going to give out athletic scholarships? They'd be booted so fast as to make the alums head spin. I'm not sure why the Bullis situation didn't cause a bigger ripple in the IAC. Maybe because you are right that so many schools are "secretly" skirting the rules so they don't draw back the curtain. It's not a problem for the cheaters but it's a problem for those schools who FOLLOW the rules.

If you are looking for an athletic scholarship and you don't need the money, stick to the WCAC or work the back door at Bullis.

Lastly, yes to scholarships for my kid too if he's that good but I want him and us to be part of the culture of the school and not just a paid mercenary.

Assuring that athletic recruitment practices respect the child, involve the parent, are consistent with Catholic values and WCAC regulations, and comply with established institutional policies and procedures applicable to the admission process;
Committing to awarding financial aid, tuition assistance or scholarships to student-athletes on the same basis as all other students;

IAC
The school should not award any need-based grant that significantly exceeds the amount recommended by School and Student Services for Financial Aid. Tuition remission for faculty children is separate from such determinations. Merit-based grants, if used, must not be awarded to entice athletes to the school.

I don't have a problem with high school recruiting whatsoever. You are delusional if you don't think all of the IAC schools recruit, event St. Albans.

I don't have a problem with Bullis' recruiting but what I do have a problem with is the types of kids they turn a blind eye to in the admissions process. I know for a fact they routinely admit kids who were advised to leave other IAC or WCAC schools for discipline related and sometimes academic related issues.

This year alone, two football players were thrown out of school in the Spring for borderline sexual assault and one could face actual prison time. Two years ago, Bullis basketball and football player got into trouble again for harassing a female student - one was expelled but the star football player was not.

Should we talk about all the bad behavior at a school like Landon? Does it make it less contemptible if a kid at Landon has been there since 3rd grade? Regardless when it comes to all of the IAC schools these days (except maybe STA), the overwhelming majority of impact players transfer in at 8th grade or later. Very have been at the schools since lower or middle school.

St. Alban's - the only school whose not good at recruiting. Probably the one stirring the pot here. All other IAC schools do it and are good at it.
