Who said there isn't a North-South divide?

Why is breaking up Barcroft a non starter? APS broke up Columbia Heights neighborhood into different schools in fact it’s like 6pmys planning units. Even Arlington Village has multiple planning units that could get split up.

Because everyone depends on all of those units being funneled into 1 or 2 schools.

Are you even from S A because you sound like a N North Arlington resident that thinks neceau they lay more taxes they should get better treatment.

I'm in Nauck and my goals are to suggest improvements that stand a chance of happening. I've no interest in "tanking" Oakridge or Fleet, but it's pretty clear to me that without purposely keeping the AH currently zoned to those schools this this fall, they will both have farms rates under 20 percent within a couple years if it gets shoved off onto Drew. I'm not interested in turning those schools into "north" Arlington schools at the cost of creating another barcroft, carlin springs, or Randolph at Drew.

DP- that’s fine, but you can’t just be concerned about Drew. We need to be looking at creating change at Barcroft, Randolph, and Carlin Springs as well. We can’t all just retreat to our corners and protect “what’s ours”.

I'll skip being offended by your comment and point out that bussing Barcroft apt students to 4 or 5 different elementaries is a nonstarter and probably the only way to meaningfully bring down the farms rate at Randolph. I'm sorry I don't have a better suggestion but I can't say progresss everywhere or progresss nowhere. I'm open to suggestions about how to better balance the other schools. Drew will be solidly title i in any scenario I can imagine, so im not trying advocate for it at the expense of neighboring schools.

Cool. Keep wasn’t isn’t working as long your corner benefits. Now that’s offensive.

I just said I'm willing to be part of a bigger solution. But bussing Barcroft apts to 4 diff elementaries is what it will take and to me that is basically exactly how bussing Worked in Nauck in the 1970s and 80s. Crack up the neighborhood and send kids out instead of bringing UMC in. it put the burden on the disadvantaged, and the neighborhood did not exactly embrace that aspect. I doubt it is possible to repeat that scenario.

But there is no where left for UMC to go in Barcroft! The entire enormous place is just thousands of apartments. What are you proposing?

I'm not proposing anything, other than to say, don't make Drew into another high poverty school with this falls zoning by shifting what AH remain at Oakridge and Henry into Drew's zone, since Drew already has plenty right now. Then I was accused of being a nimby for not having a master plan to solve 80 years of housing segregation in Arlington county. I said, happy to help but breaking up Barcroft Apts is a nonstarter because you'll get people like talento all fired up.

Not about turns, and you speak for no one but yourself, so can the "we". It's about what's possible. Suggest to me a coordinated effort with a snowballs chance and I'm on board. Saying, if we all shout the same thing at the same time we'll get what we want isn't the answer, and ignores the fact that we simply have no voting clout, at all.

ASP was already putting it out there with the suggestion of turning Barcorft or Carlin Springs into an immersion school.

Cool. Hopefully they'll actually discuss it in 3 years instead of caving and pulling the plug. Went over like a lead balloon this time.

That would involve parents coming together and saying that schools over 50% shouldn’t be acceptable.

1 and 2 are easy.

3 is always the sticking point. People will spout off on 1 and 2 all day long, but ask them for 3 and they go silent.

Good luck with the second half of your list.
