There is factual proof that he did molest five girls, one of whom was kindergarten-age at the time. The Duggar parents did not go to the authorities about this. They went to a friend who happened to be a state trooper, who himself was convicted of and served time for child pornography shortly thereafter. The Duggar parents HID the FACT of their son's CRIME and would have done so forever but for the Oprah/Harpo Productions tip-off of the Arkansas authorities (lamentably, after the statute of limitations had tolled). Finally, the program he was sent to was not a counseling program to address the CRIMES that he committed. In fact, it was a "faith-based" institute headed by a man who was accused by 30+ women of sexual harassment in 2014. |
And immediately after they found out what their firstborn son had done, they signed a tell all reality show deal with TLC. Without getting counseling for the girls, since obviously it must have somehow been their faults. |
Did they hire an attorney? My reading of the documents was they contacted two attorneys who wanted nothing to do with them, then Jim Bob refused to bring Josh in to be interviewed. |
You're going to be flamed because your information is wrong. Josh had two or more known molesting incidents in 2002, after the first Jim Bob had a family meeting and disciplined him. After there were several more he spoke to church elders who said he needed to be sent to a program, which mom duggar admitted was a family friend's construction site. The girls did not receive any counseling. (As far as we know based on what their beliefs show, they probably blamed the girls for wearing something too short or tight) Only after Josh came back to the family did Jim Bob take him to the state trooper who was his personal friend. The trooper gave Josh a "stern" talking to. The state trooper is currently serving a 56 year sentence for child pornography. They only took the girls to be interviewed YEARS later, after a friend found a note detailing the molestations tucked in a book that was lent to them by the Duggars. By then the statute of limitations had expired and no charges could be brought against Josh. Mr. and Mrs. Duggar did literally everything wrong. |
I agree, but don't forget he is Christian and conservative so he must be villified as much as possible. |
3 says: "Let it go, ok? You're annoying us with your abuse chit-chat." 4 says: "You asked for it." "If abused was not at fault" implies that "abused is usually at fault." What a bunch of sickos. I imagine that some of the girls will eventually run away as often happens with these cults and one of them will write a juicy tell-all book for a nice fat sum. |
Not worth flaming. You clearly have reading comprehension problems. |
Shame shame on the woman, hush hush on the man |
Some of you people are so incredibly extreme that it is scary. You are all over this story and this family with intense hatred and anger, but you claim to not watch the show, not like the family, disagree with their views, disagree with their actions, and yet you have such strong opinions and feelings towards them. What is up with that, I mean really. It's not healthy. Why do you care so much about this? There must be some pretty intense negativity in your lives to be posting some of the crazy stuff I'm reading here.
The reason I'm reading and responding is because I liked the duggars. I watched the show when I had cable, ever since the first special aired years ago. I feel awful for the family and what they must be going through right now. Every single one of them. Even josh. I just can't imagine hearing that something horrific happened to a family and going online and bashing them on an online forum, and especially not to the extent that many of you are doing. It doesn't matter how I felt about the family, if I disagreed with everything about them. It would make me uncomfortable and I'd have to consider what issues in my life would drive me to do such a thing. You talk about the family being hateful (which I just do not get, at all), but what about what you are doing? Is that not hypocritical ( which is another word some of you have been using to describe the duggars)? I can imagine that if this scanadal came to light about a family that you all were fond of, and people were rushing to judgment on here, you'd be posting things like "we don't have all the details, this might not be true, that might not be true, show the family some empathy, they are human and make mistakes, etc". And yet none of the people who support the duggars are denying that something terrible happened, just that it is a bad idea to get so excited about bashing them during this time. I can't imagine being so smug about a family's traumatic secrets being revealed on the news and celebrity gossip tabloids. It's really sad |
Well put. |
+1 my sentiments exactly - but don't forget this is DCUM. It's to be expected. |
That's pretty rich, considering you are defending a family that earns its money by broadcasting their lives on TV (and magazines, and talk shows, and websites, appearances, etc.), and was made famous by putting their children and lifestyle out for public viewing and comment. Everything they do is designed to promote their particular brand of conservative Christianity and to make money. So yes, when they espouse personal and sexual repression and intolerance, but they tolerate their oldest son molesting four of their young daughters (age 4????!!! That is predatory, plain and simple), then they are going to get booted from their gravy train of piety. And their dirty laundry is going to be hung out in public. That's the risk you take when you live your life for the camera. This is not a family in crises, this is a cult whose leaders will do anything to preserve the status quo. I feel zero sympathy, except for the daughters. That sh*t need to be shut down NOW. |
Yes, I'm defending them because I don't think they are bad people. However, I'm not demanding that you, or anyone else tolerate and accept them or their values, which many may find extreme and/or disagree with. But can you say the same for yourself or many liberal democrats when it comes to what they value? Let's be honest about this one, because that seems to be where the real issue is with the duggars according to many of the people posting to this thread. I also find that to be incredibly rich. |
How about Gothard? Do you think he's not a bad person? |
Forgot to mention that Im also not calling anyone bigots or accusing them of being fearful of anything (homophobic?) because they disagree with the duggars or me. I believe in God, but I haven't been to church in years. But I appreciate that others have different religious beliefs than I do. It's good that we have freedom of religion in the USA. It's also good to have freedom of speech and liberty. I don't hate anyone who disagrees with me, but can we say the same about many of anti-duggar crowd that are posting to this thread? |
