Very aggressive post! Can one of you "shut the schools" folks get on the record about when you think the schools should actually open? Or what standard the roads and sidewalks need to be in to permit students to get to school. Because if you look at the weather conditions are not improving anytime soon. Do you want us shut through the end of next week? |
My kids spent Tuesday and Wednesday there training. It was quite productive and ironically you could be right. |
I know exactly what it it's like. My DH, teen, and I all took turns shoveling - including the 3' wall formed by the county plow. Now our sidewalks and driveway are clear and dry. If you shoveled early and often you would have been fine. Don't get pissy at others - you only have yourself to blame. |
It wasn't ice when it first came down. Don't get pissy at others because you made some bad choices. You chose to ignore the advice to shovel early and often. That's on you. My kids were fine at home. They had a chance to finish up some outstanding work. Again, I am shocked that our private was open today given the low temps and road conditions. My teens drove to school OK but it was not a good call by our school IMO. |
| ^ they were doing just fine with virtual school on Tues/Wed |
We should open when it is safe and easy to drive. I'm not inconveniencing myself or making my commute more difficult than it needs to be for your kids. Take care of them yourself. |
Ma’am, we’ve been driving around since Monday. |
So we will wait till March till it all melts? I think it is OK for the city/residents to continue cleaning up as much as possible until the end of this week but next week schools should be open. Those who can telework should stay home though to not unnecessarily add to traffic on the narrowed streets. |
No telework. Universities are all open now. |
What do you think sleet is? The whole problem with this storm and the reason it has been publicized as the worst in 30 years was that it was a few inches of snow followed by inches of sleet, which is ice. |
I don't really mind if we open tomorrow. Will probably be a delay so I can sleep in and have an easy worksheet day. But is has been nice to relax at home these last 4 days while parents freak out about "learning loss". |
DP. That’s so nice you had help. My DH is a first responder and wasn’t home, so I got to do my LONG driveway all by myself. (My children are too young to make much of a dent.) So while you were taking turns, I had nobody to rely on but myself. I also had to shovel during my pauses from work, because I was also working online. I know it’s hard to be empathetic. I really do. But not everybody has your resources, nor do they live on your street. My street is STILL down to one lane for both directions, as is the access road to our community. Can I get out? Yes, but I won’t pretend it’s easy. I can also see how the road can’t handle normal two-way traffic in its current condition. We tend to think rather myopically on this site. “If I have it easy, clearly everyone else is just lazy.” I recommend trying to see past that view, however. Your experiences are just YOUR experiences. |
So it wasn’t ice when it first came down; it was a few inches of snow. |
+1 schools should have opened Tuesday |
Good for you. Go help others then. |
