| LaxNumbers has it as Yorktown 15-4, which is it? |
| 15-14. They fixed it now. |
| Heartbreaking win for McLean who led for almost the entire game. |
| Sorry meant to say heartbreaking loss |
|
They were up 6-1 in the 2nd quarter. Just ran out of gas there at the end.
|
| A lot of unforced errors in the 4th quarter cost them the game but they put up one heck of a fight against an excellent Yorktown team. I also think they have answered the “is McLean overrated question” |
| That #21 on Oakton is an absolute game changer. Can’t wait to see where she goes in 2 years. Side note - Madison has some stinky stinky fans |
| Yorktown came out cold and McLean played really well and frankly seemed more pumped. I think tonight might have been a needed wake up for Yorktown as they slept walked through much of the game and were challenged for the first time in a while. |
| Results on the Oakton Madison game? |
Oakton started out really strong, scored first couple goals, generating turnovers, think they were leading 3-2 after 1stQ. Good back and forth for first half, think halftime was 6-4 Madison. 3rd quarter Madison got 4 straight to pull away - they’re definitely clicking well on offense, be interesting to see how regionals shake out. |
| Any idea about regional brackets (who plays who)? |
|
Games tomorrow:
#4 Herndon @ #1 Madison #3 Westfield @ #2 McLean #4 Centreville @ #1 Yorktown #3 Langley @ #2 Oakton |

Week of May 15 -2023 VA Boys 6A Rankings
1. Yorktown (15-1) Last Week: Def. Herndon 18-5, Def. McLean 15-14 Analysis: Yorktown wins the Liberty district and remains undefeated in public school play. Got a scare from McLean that could be the needed wakeup call. They should crush Centreville and may not be tested under the Region D finals game. This Week: Centreville (5/18), Winner of Oakton/Langley (5/22) (likely) 2. Madison (14-2) Last Week: Def. Centreville 18-4, Def. Oakton 12-5 Analysis: Madison holds the #2 spot ahead of Lake Braddock due to the head-to-head win earlier this season. Madison cruised through the Concorde district tournament and continues to look strong. They should beat Herndon easily, but the second round matchup with McLean could be more interesting. This Week: Herndon (5/18), Winner of McLean/Westfield (5/22) (likely) 3. Lake Braddock (15-2) Last Week: Def. Woodson 16-6, Def. Robinson 10-7 Analysis: Lake Braddock beat Woodson and then got their revenge against Robinson in the district championship. The Bruins were loud on social media and it should be electric in the likely event that these two teams meet again in the regional finals. LB is tough to beat when they are on their game. This Week: No games 4. Battlefield (13-3) Last Week: Def. John Champe 15-2, Def. Freedom 11-9 Analysis: Battlefield crushed Champe and won a close one against Freedom to take the Cedar Run title. Freedom played them well the second time around and may have figured things out in the chance that there is a third matchup in regionals. The Bobcats should still be a lock for the state tournament but the #1 seed in Regional B is no longer a sure thing. This Week: Woodbridge (5/18), Winner of Forest Park/Colonial Forge 5. Robinson (13-4) Last Week: Def. West Potomac 16-9, Lost to Lake Braddock 10-7 Analysis: Robinson made it to the finals, but fell behind to the Bruins and could not dig their way out of the whole in time. They should have a relatively easy path through regionals before a third matchup with Lake Braddock in the Region C Championship game. This Week: No games 6. McLean (14-3) Last Week: Def. Marshall 15-3, Def. Langley 7-4, Lost to Yorktown 15-14 Analysis: McLean dominated Langley in the second matchup and advanced to the Liberty district championship game, before succumbing to the Yorktown Patriots. Led for the majority of the game but just faded down the stretch. Great run for the Highlanders – they just need to take the next step and figure out how to finish off the better teams. Probably on par with Robinson and Battlefield but they need a top-5 win to crack the top-5. They face Westfield for the second time in the first round of regionals. The first game was closer than expected but we think McLean rolls on more easily this time, before a likely matchup with Madison in the semis. This Week: Westfield (5/18), Madison (5/22) (likely) 7. Freedom South Riding (12-4) Last Week: Def. Patriot 11-9, Lost to Battlefield 11-9 Analysis: Freedom beat Patriot and gave Battlefield a good game in the championship but fell just short. They have a good shot to make it to the state tournament but John Champe and Patriot aren’t giving up yet. This Week: Hylton (5/19), Winner of Patriot/Colgan 8. Langley (9-4) Last Week: Def. Wakefield 19-1, Lost to McLean 7-4 Analysis: Langley laid an egg against McLean scoring just four goals and looking hopeless on offense. They get a tough matchup with Oakton in the first round, a team they beat in OT in the first game of the season. They would then likely face Yorktown in the semis and that should be the end of their season. This Week: Oakton (5/18), Yorktown (5/22) (possible) 9. Oakton (10-6) Last Week: Def. Westfield 11-5, Lost to Madison Analysis: Beat Westfield easily before falling to Madison Tough draw as the #2 seed getting Langley in the first round. If they win, they will face Yorktown, and like Langley, are unlikely to advance to the state tournament. This Week: Langley (5/18), Yorktown (5/22) (possible) 10. Cosby (11-3) Last Week: Def. Manchester 15-3, Def. James river 18-3, Def. Kellam 16-9 Analysis: We will give Cosby some love in the last poll of the season. They went undefeated in Class 6, with all three losses coming against relatively strong Class 5 teams. They beat the second best team in Region A this week, undefeated Kellam, and should coast to the state tournament. This Week: Landstown (5/19) Honorable Mention: John Champe, South County, Patriot, West Potomac |

Region B is:
Battlefield/Woodbridge Forest Park/Colonial Forge Colgan/Patriot Freedom/Hylton Region C is still a mystery. |
First three should be snoozes but Langley/Oakton should be good - OT win for Langley in Week 1. |
