One of the pictures I saw has them flashing the white power hand sign.

And in DC we had MPD standing around doing nothing while PBs assaulted random people right in front of them, we had MPD giving PBs fist bumps, we had MPD Lieutenants feeding intel to PBs.

Police departments are compromised by violent far right extremists.

Not to mention, the revelation that the Oathkeepers membership roster included numerous active police officers. As a reminder, Proud Boys and Oathkeepers were two of the main domestic right wing MAGA terrorist groups involved in organizing the violent attack on the US Capitol on January 6th.

Police turning a blind eye to right wing violence is not a "whoops" - it's by design.

MCPD officers were down there protecting the Capitol and several were severely injured. There are 18,000 police departments. Painting them all with one broad brush does nobody any good. And can actually harm.

And police need to get over this toxic bullshit culture of "to hold one cop accountable is an attack on all cops" crap. Cops themselves need to be the ones leading the charge to purge yourselves of the cops you yourselves know to be abusive shitheads. Otherwise you don't look much better than the criminals. Just another gang, except with badges. Clean up your act.

That's not what's happening though. People are blaming all cops for what happens hundreds of miles away.

Ok, how's this: cops who have this toxic bullshit culture need to get over it. Cops who have bad cops in their ranks (which may not be absolutely every police department, to your point). Cops who have these issues in their departments and do nothing sully all cops' reputations.

And all the good, honorable officers who perform the job with integrity will STILL be despised by people who want to hate cops. They can save lives. They can report other officers for wrongdoing. (Incidentally, most complaints in Montgomery County come from fellow officers.) The vitriol will still be slung at them.

That’s hate. Pure and simple. Fortunately for all of us, they will continue to do their jobs with honor regardless of how they are treated.

And some of us will thank them.

(Now feel free to sling some hate my way. I know it’s coming.)

would you say this a kit the snitches get stiches mentality in many cities that allows murderers to escape being caught? Far far more deaths than by police btw

Another day, another Mink screw up. Please don’t vote for her again.

Councilmember Kristin Mink Releases Statement Apologizing to Muslim Community For Remarks Made During Board of Education Meeting

She’s awful and clearly not open to trying to accommodate our diverse population. Let parents opt out and stop forcing your beliefs on others. Not that hard.
Anonymous
She's clearly out of her depth. This is what happens when you elect an activist with no actual policy experience.

She apologized for the hurt she caused. She didn’t apologize for saying something super sh¡tty. Calls it “mischaracterization and misunderstanding.” Whatever. She sucks.

She has that crazy eye look like she needs to be locked in a padded room.

Good grief, the video of her berating school children for simply having a different opinion on school curricula is disgusting.

And why does she go on and on and on and on spewing her hatred for white women? It's kind of ironic given the fact that she is herself white, and her kids are going to grow up being white women, yet she goes out there all the time talking about how white women need to be 'struck down'.

Silver Spring must have some kind of special drugs in the water to elect this loony bin who spews hatred for giant portions of her voter base. Have people in SS fried their brains on shrooms? I can't explain how anyone in that area votes for her.

tolerance means giving space to people who have different views. This is a complicated situation where we need to honor both gender and sexual identity, as well as religious identity. I know a lot of progressives don’t like religion, but there is a constitutional right to it. And I know some people don’t accept gender and sexuality diversity. But we need to figure out a way to share common space.

We brag about our county’s diversity. It is our selling point. Race, ethnicity, language, 1/3 immigrants, etc. But now we are seeing how that can sometimes be challenging.

True leadership will stand up and make space for these differences, because the more diverse we get, the more conflict we will have like this. Let’s model tolerance in a courteous and respectful way.

Why is my school board wasting time on this issue instead of, say, reducing overcrowding?

Good question. I must admit I am not following it closely, but if the school system is being sued, they can't speak publicly to the policy. So why were people testifying Tuesday anyway?

People can testify but I don’t think the individuals in the law suit can.

She lives in a binary world. You are either with her or against her. There is no middle ground.

Agree or disagree with her, she is very passionate about her activism. She’s a great activist! She cares deeply about trans LGBTQ issues.

What she is not, is a good council woman. She should never have gone into it, and she should not run again. She should keep her focus on her passion projects, where she will be very effective for them.

I browse her Twitter and you can tell what she cares about. I don’t see the apology on there, unless I missed it in one of her threads.
