RW vs LW news

This is the drivel headline from the allegedly left wing Washington Post which I wanted to grab before they changed it:

“What’s driving a possible shutdown? A fraction of the federal budget.
Lawmakers in both parties have called for getting serious about the rising federal debt. The shutdown fight ignores its key drivers.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2023/09/24/government-shutdown-congress-budget/

Once again we find ourselves on the brink of a Republican caused shutdown, and the media is blaming Democrats, too.

Part of what drives right wing focused news is who gets quoted. In this article that is meant to excoriate the current iteration of the GOP’s craziness, they spoke to AEI, Newt Gingrich (yes, that one) and a libertarian think tank, and one center left think tank.

Furthermore, in using the GOP’s “Seinfeld shutdown” nomenclature, it obscures the fact that this GOP shutdown is as selfish and short sighted as they ever are. Gingrich is the one who really began pushing right wingers to the edge of crazy; why speak to the guy? They referenced what he did, sort of, but they softened it way too much.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2023/09/29/government-shutdown-gop-seinfeld/

I first saw this article on Yahoo and the comments were a real surprise: every comment I saw blamed the GOP. People are sick of the GOP’s circus.

If you are RW news and you want to tell a lie, just find a guest to say it. Then justify it by saying their opinion is "newsworthy".

Literally the only reason John Solomon still has a job.

Four Republicans on a panel, all depicted as “swing” voters. Oversampling Republicans and then lying about who has been sampled is one of the many ways in which the corporate media drives the narrative that the Democrats are doing poorly.

https://www.nbcnews.com/meet-the-press/video/-i-d-still-vote-for-biden-if-he-was-dead-pa-voters-react-to-trump-biden-2024-rematch-194683973849

Interestingly, one of the Republicans says he would vote for Biden even if Biden was dead, so thoroughly is that Republican voter disgusted with Trump.

How do they keep doing this?

A Republican who voted for Trump in 2020 saying “I will never vote Biden” is not news.

The corporate media has to have their narrative and they will feed it at all costs.

In the summer of 2020, the @nytimes was plunged into a moral crisis after an oped by @TomCottonAR. Hundreds of journalists said the piece put their lives in danger. The opinion editor was pushed out. Others were smeared or demoted.

Compare that to this week. Paper publishes Hamas PR and employs a Hitler fan. Riots break out around the world. There has been no public letter, no firings--nothing.

I think the analysis is skewed. I would move the middle line to the left about halfway to the next line. I consider BBC, PBS, Reuters to be in the middle. It is interesting how people's perceptions of where the middle is has slowly skewed to the right over the past few decades.

Even in the UK the BBC is considered left leaning.

I considered bbc more fact-based and moderate until I read their rationale for not referring to Hamas as terrorists. Now I consider them ridiculous.

This is so ridiculous. “Incumbent President does something that helps Americans even though he’s trailing in the polls!”
