and Richmond have their second teams in that league too... The issue is that the league is catering to the south division. north division teams travel south more than south division teams. not much north division teams can do...

vote with their feet and go play NCSL D1 for those ages then start ECNL-RL at u13.

This year was tough since nobody knew the combing was going to happen but even if they did, people would not opt out of being on the top team.

I have several kids in sports, I do NOT want to drive all the way to the middle of nowhere for one little kid soccer game--3 times in one season! Its completely stupid. If I had known this I would have asked to have my kid put on the gold team.

You do realize that ever other Pre-ECNL team is doing the same thing right? This is not a Valor issue nor did they have a say in it. When/if you kids moves to ECNL-RL or ECNL they will be doing the same travel if not more for NL. If you don't want the travel commitment you can ask to be moved down. Like someone else said, I'm sure there is a gold team player who will be happy to take your kids spot.

Also, part of the reason for the merger was because several teams left for GA and also the good South teams wanted better competition than some of the mediocre teams they constantly had to play in the south.

This is a "PRE"-Elite Clubs NATIONAL League. It's purpose is to prep players for a higher level of play which also demands more travel.

See, that's BS. The CLUBS knew the combining was going to happen months before the parents and coaches were told. They should have let the coaches and families know during the summer when they knew the schedule was going to involve a lot more travel so people could opt on to a team with less travel.

OK which VA clubs notified parents of the change?

This is not factually correct. The RL teams have fewer away games. And yes, it makes more sense to travel for an older player's game than an elementary schooler.

Haha same. Ex Valor here too and I never put it on my car. We stayed because our kid was happy (until they weren’t) but I never wanted to publicly advertise it that we were paying them money.

Yep, me either. Like “hi, you like being part of a disorganized group and being shafted with money and coaching, too? Cool…cool…”

And the moms that are the managers we all in cahoots with each other doing stupid stuff like, buy socks and bows and headbands…

This ain’t cheerleading. Ugh!

Diehard Valor fans tend to be people with more money than sense. And people whose kids can't make a first team anywhere else but the parents are invested in being able to say their kid plays on a top team.

But how many kids from Valor actually make an ECNL team? If you have a kid playing pre-ECNL, you know there is a pretty big divide between the future ECNL teams and the future RL teams. The combination of travel + lopsided scores is not fun. The U11/U12 leagues are a mess. Most kids should be playing locally until U13 in a large metro area like this. Very few teams need to leave this area to get appropriate competition.

Stay away from the joke of a club valor if you kid is serious about soccer. Coaching staff is terrible and they simply can’t attract the talent.

I'm a 20171 mom whose kid plays in CYA rec. If we want to do travel, what's the alternative where practices aren't too far away (also two work out of the house parents here)?
