I thought this thread was ridiculous always. My kid made the pre ecnl team. No one told us the games were going to be so far away even though apparently they knew months and months ago. It feels like we were tricked. I have several kids in sports, I do NOT want to drive all the way to the middle of nowhere for one little kid soccer game--3 times in one season! Its completely stupid. If I had known this I would have asked to have my kid put on the gold team.
You do realize that ever other Pre-ECNL team is doing the same thing right? This is not a Valor issue nor did they have a say in it. When/if you kids moves to ECNL-RL or ECNL they will be doing the same travel if not more for NL. If you don't want the travel commitment you can ask to be moved down. Like someone else said, I'm sure there is a gold team player who will be happy to take your kids spot. Also, part of the reason for the merger was because several teams left for GA and also the good South teams wanted better competition than some of the mediocre teams they constantly had to play in the south. This is a "PRE"-Elite Clubs NATIONAL League. It's purpose is to prep players for a higher level of play which also demands more travel.
But how many kids from Valor actually make an ECNL team? If you have a kid playing pre-ECNL, you know there is a pretty big divide between the future ECNL teams and the future RL teams. The combination of travel + lopsided scores is not fun. The U11/U12 leagues are a mess. Most kids should be playing locally until U13 in a large metro area like this. Very few teams need to leave this area to get appropriate competition.
