Surprised?

What does that mean for the election? Could Cuomo win?

I don't know but I think people arw looking to vote against Cuomo more than being pro-Mandami. It's not like he is some unknown. Been there, done that, and not well.

I’ll admit I ranked Cuomo first but I won’t vote for him in the general. I’m disgusted by him sucking up to wealthy special interests

Cuomo you ranked first?
Brain cells dead?

Cuomo is Trump the US is more important than this utter shit.

I really don’t think Cuomo was Trump at all. Not sure what that even means? Can you explain?

"He has also sought assurances from Mr. Mamdani that he would not endorse primary challengers pushed by the Democratic Socialists."

This is what it boils down to with endorsements; neither Heastie nor Schumer nor Jeffries wants to be involved in elevating somebody who's going to support primary challenges to their members, however much those members might deserve them.

Next year's primary cycle is going to be *incredibly* ugly and I expect Mamdani will be a leading figure in elevating new voices in the party. This is good and necessary, but the existing members are not going to take it well.

(the Israel stuff at this point I think is just a convenient excuse - even in NYC it has a lot less salience among the party base than it used to, but nobody wants to *admit* they're protecting their shitty incumbents so they latch onto that instead)

Great article - thanks for sharing. This explains why many of us are hesitant about Mamdani. It isn't all about Israel. It is a lot of other issues. Heastie is a lifelong Democrat - no one can accuse him of being MAGA. But he can see the forest for the trees. I have posted many times here trying to explain my hesitations with Mamdani and this article does it really well.

Unfortunately, it looks like we are stuck with Mamdani as the other candidates are awful. But hopefully he will listen to what others are saying and stop trying to be a revolutionary.

Maybe I missed it. Other than Israel, why is Heastie not supporting Mandani?

Read the article. It was very well written.

If I lived in NYC I would be voting Cuomo. Adams needs to drop out.

So if all the others consolidate they can beat Mamdani. I don't think there is much chance that realistically happens, even if two of them drop out. But it is possible.

But wouldn’t some of those voters switch to Mamdani?

Yes, NYT had him leading 48-44 in a 2-way race and Emerson has him leading 47-40. But Sliwa gets more votes than Adams and Sliwa has unequivocally denied he's even thinking about dropping out, so even if Adams does the race will likely remain a blowout.

Yes, that's why I said that there wasn't much chance of them all consolidating.

I’m not sure why Mamdani made that statement about arresting Bibi if he comes to NYC.
