Ok, between the gift of DVDs to Gordon Brown (which don't work in the UK) and now the joke on Leno about the Special Olympics, it is pretty embarrassing that the American people just elected Obama president.
Honestly, it is not ok to make jokes about people with disabilities especially when you are the President. |
Of course it's not. Is that what you want to hear? And you'd be right. It was an awful "joke."
But, let's not start holding Obama to some "embarassing" standard when are former commander was less than Grace Under Fire himself. You can't begin to list the malapropisms and gaffes by that guy. So, really, let's move on. |
No matter what he says here on out, there is no way he can top Bushisms. My favorite was Newkaler. You shouldn't be allowed to play with them if you can't say it! |
I liked when Bush complained about how the press "misunderestimated" him. Hee!
Totally agree that Obama's Special Olympics remark was cringe-worthy, but I'm sure he's embarrassed and he already apologized. There is a big difference between putting your foot in your mouth and actually being incompetent. The latter is much more embarrassing, and we had plenty of experience with that the last eight years. |
I don't agree that this needs to be "swept under the rug" just because Bush was "much worse". Obama set up expectations and he needed to think before he said this. It is as bad as making an offensive comparison based on race and sex. It leads me to wonder what he is like behind closed doors.... |
Yes, yes. This undermines everything for which Obama stands. Who cares about the economy or the two wars we are currently fighting? What we need to do is spend our time condemning Obama for being self-deprecating about his own talents and being inadvertently offensive. Impeach the bastard! Keeping in mind that on any other day conservatives would be defending the right of Rush or Coulter to make similar or even worse jokes, what to you seriously propose we do about this? |
Oh my goodness. It was a very unfortunate choice of words. It was embarrassing. It does not suggest that he is secretly anti-handicapped people. |
OP, this means that you have NEVER put your foot in your mouth. |
I wonder how the prime minister is enjoying his DVDs he can't watch. Nice diplomacy flop with our closest ally. |
BTW, the DVD thing was a little odd, but when I think about it, he is probably trying to push American culture. That is through Hollywood, but it IS American culture. Are we having trouble facing that? |
If GB wants to have a tantrum about the "wrong" gift, I can introduce him to my 4 year old, who does the BEST tantrums. |
This just shows how inexperienced these people are...maybe next time they will just but a gift certificate. |
Also, what is Obama going to do with the pens and desk ornaments that Brown gave him? When I get those as gifts, I wonder WHAT the person was thinking. I would prefer the movies....probably most people would prefer the movies, they just wont admit it. |
I meant buy a gift certificate. |
It may not have been a well-thought out gift, but "diplomacy flop" is a bit of an exaggeration in my view. |
