Any bad fertility doctors?

Anonymous
I am starting to look for a fertility doctor and was wondering if anyone had a negative experience with any fertility doctor in the area. There are so many doctors in the area and I find word of mouth is the best way to really learn if a doctor is any good.

I don't know anything about his skill but my husband and I found Dr. Dimattina at Dominion to be one of the rudest physicians (really rudest people) we have ever met. Honestly, the guy could guarantee me a 100% pregnancy rate and I wouldn't give him a dime.
He literally cursed throughout our consult. I would have expected better from ANY professional.

The crazy thing is that we are an "easy" case who had previous IVF success and would have been easy $$$ in his pocket. As predicted, we ended up having success again went we went to Shady Grove.

Dr. Nancy Durso did some pretty unprofessional things with my care (dropped my case completely when I had an ectopic under her care), and, like the previous poster, I went to Shady Grove & had success. Some people swear by Dr. Durso, though.

I have to disagree with the other poster about Dr. DiMattina. I actually like him as a doctor. He is a little arrogant and will tell you like it is, but he is determined to get you pregnant. Just my personal opinion.

Nadya Suleman's doc?

Sorry, OP, I couldn't resist. Best of luck to you on your search and the ultimate success of the process!!!

Honestly, I think the best thing to do is to research the REs - look at where they went to med school, see if they publish in the medical literature, loot at the stats and then make an appointment to talk to a few REs. Even if you don't have insurance, the initial consults are cheap compared to the treatments. We got three consults before choosing an RE. That said, I also had a bad experience with Dr Dimattina (he actually did guarantee that he could get me pregnant, which seemed a little suspect given that there are no guarantees with anything in life). But I know someone who loves him. When I was starting to look for an RE my GYN gave me a few recs and then said I should just listen to my gut.

Go to this site:
http://www.cdc.gov/ART/ART2006/index.htm

and compare the stats have to be reported to the federal government. Anyone who says "stats don't matter" or "clinics exclude hard patients to improve their scores" generally has bad statistics.

Personality does matter, whether or not you have good odds getting pregnant with that physician matters far more in my book.

My experience with almost all dr's at GIVF was very bad.. and I was there for a few cycles..

Dr. Asnar at washington fertility kept pushing me for donor egg even before trying any IF treatment - he and his nurse kept telling me they rarely saw any success at my age (37) and my eggs were bad (though testing for fsh etc. didn't show that).. i delivered a healthy baby 10 months later - I have two kids now..

Dr Kultresha aka Dr K at GIVF. Bad stimulation, overstimulated and she was nowhere to be found.

I've been to:
1. dr. dimattina is an asshole - stay away from him.
2. cfa is extremely unorganized.
3. dr. durso is super nice and so is her staff but has low stats - and after a year of zero results with her, i finally went to dr. greenhouse at shady grove.

and after my first ivf w/ him (3rd ivf total) i am now pregnant with twins. oh and i like him a lot - shady grove is a huge facility, but if you want results - go there. morning monitoring is fast and organized. i rarely saw my primary dr. or nurse, but i personally didn't mind that i don't need hand holding, i needed results- especially since they were always available anytime that i emailed/called them with questions.

good luck!

Sharara at VCRM is bad. Uses the same protocols over and over again. Cherry picks patients-only takes cases that probably won't harm his stats. Is rude to his staff in front of patients. Is rude to patients when they ask questions and just in general. Raises his voice at patients for really no reason. He raised his voice with me and a friend of mine. Both of us were "good patients" who were paying attention and just got confused/didn't do something to his liking. His nurse gave me her home phone number before I started an IVF cycle with him and told me "the doctor does not like to be disturbed with questions on the weekends." WTF? Aren't I your customer?

Paulette Browne at SG, David Frankfurter at GW, Dr. Greenhouse at SG all good dr's. I have direct experience with Browne and Frankfurter and have heard from multiple people good things about Greenhouse. Best of luck.

Agree completely- we were doing an IUI and they let me go so that I ovulated naturally vs trigger- she told me that my body didn't need the trigger and that it was better that way (we of course discovered i had ovulated only AFTER i ovulated and then was forced to scramble DH to get sperm)- stupidly we did this (and even more on their side for missing my hcg trigger) 3 times before I lined up SG and dr greenhouse- great results (2 year old).

We had a great experience with Dominion Fertility, Dr. Gordon was our primary doctor but I saw Dr. D a couple of times and he was fine. The entire staff was very professional and we were glad my OB/GYN recommended them.

I had a wonderful experience at GIVF. Drs Lincoln and Udoff are great as is their staff.... just goes to show folks all have different experiences.
