I mean MLS can just say that they’ll only scout from MSLNext as well as get rid of any partnerships with ECNL clubs, and essentially delineate between a pro and college paths.

You have no idea the places mls academies are scouting from. They don’t care about leagues, they would scout a rec game if there was a freak athlete there.

Even if this was true all the freaks would end up at MLS.

Theres no situation where ECNL boys is able to out recruit talent over MLS.

MLS's one issue is they go through a lot of players that never make it to the next level then go to ECNL bitter and angry. Ideally MLS p2p assresses this.

Leagues letters come and go. The clubs are interacting with kids daily. National leagues are actually local 95% of time. A few big p2p clubs’ owners sitting together could make mlsn irrelevant

How? Seriously. How would this occur?

MLS Homegrown are the youth acadamies for professional MLS teams.

Most players at MLS academies come from an mlsn club. MLS Academies don’t care about numbers though, they are trying to find that one elite player that will eventually play for their first team or who they can sell to make money. They don’t care where they find this player and will never limit where they can scout from. Scouting is important to MLS clubs. BY vs SY is silliness to them.

MLS has their name on the MLSNext league so it’s in their best interest that it not become irrelevant.

MLS homegrown are not the youth academies for MLS teams. MLS homegrown is mlsn1.

Also add a little more.

I have an older and a younger playing. This summer we went to a big boys/girls tournament. Every MLS club had what seemed like 5-6 youngers boys teams at every age. The ECNL clubs had 1 maybe 2 boys teams per age group. It wasnt like this six years ago when my oldest was a little.

I just dont see a situation where boys ECNL can end around MLS.

As others have said, that’s not correct.

MLS Academies spend a ton of money developing players and have been getting very little return on this investment. They are able to make money off of so few players. It’s entirely possible that MLS clubs concentrate on the older ages in the future u18, MLS pro, a partnership with college programs, etc.

Sure but I think the point is that MLSN1 is still MLS connected. So long as there is a connection, it is desirable for a lot of players and serious players will pick it over ECNL.

MLS Homegrown Division is the top tier for elite MLS and Elite Academy teams, providing a direct pathway to the professional game, while the MLS Academy Division is a new, second tier with regional competition that includes a wider variety of clubs to broaden access and opportunity.

I think theres just a lot of girl dad ECNL cheerleaders that like to comment online about MLS + girls ECNL is all they know.

What you noticed is completely accurate when it comes to littles boys. They all tend to flock to the MLS Next clubs when young. Honestly MLS should just create its own regional littles league for boys and stop playing nice.

And all of those clubs are pushing for 8/1.

Thats a rumor that may or may not be true.

However its easy to see that MLS p2p clubs leaving for ECNL is a hollow threat unless they want to lose 2-3 boys teams of littles players per age group.

When MLS decides to sanction teams down to U7 maybe this is a conversation worth having. Untill then we have trapped player issues all over the US and most kids want to play HS soccer.

I dont see any issues with Homegrown staying SY but everyone else needs to be SY for obvious and overwhelming reasons.

Trapped players only have issues in 8th grade with HS soccer and Freshman/Sophmore year with recruiting.

BY or SY makes no difference ar the youngers ages.
