AAP Appeal Process

Anonymous
Ok you knew this was coming.... Who has information on the AAP appeals process? What worked for you? Does anyone know where I can get a Naglieri re-test? GMU doesn't offer them this time of year. DC was diagnosed with ADHD in the middle of all this so we think we need to retest him. WISC score is very high but wasn't enough apparently.

Can you tell me how much was the WISC?

If the WISC was not high enough, I am not sure a Naglieri score will help. Did you include the doctor's evaluation report/diagnosis in with the original screening file? If not, I would offer that as new information. You may also want to consider the Stanford-Binet.

I am not OP. My DC was not accepted. DC was rising 4th grade. Cogat was composit 128 and Wisc was fsiq was 132. Both high in Verbal and VCI. One of the sub section of Wisc was 99.9%. His is 2e due to his medical condition which is not ADHD and ADD.
I bet it was his GBRS score which I still don't know and school says they will not release it until mid May. Absolutely rudiculous!!
Should I go for appeal?

Appeal if you think it's ridiculous.

How do you know this? Does FCPS send letters for students not selected also? Do you know his GBRS?

Did you submit the optional parent questionnaire and indicate your DC "is 2e due to his medical condition which is not ADHD and ADD"?

School is required to give you a copy of the file once it was sent to the central committee. Who at the school told you this?

I said it was "ridiculous" because they wouldn't release copy of the file until mid May. Not because DC was not accepted.

This doesn't add up - especially when you say the school won't release GBRS comments/score. The school can share your DC's file as soon as it's sent off the aap central committee.

AART told me this via email. They just sent me another email that I can have the copy of the GBRS. Finally!!!

Yes... We filled all the forms including an explanation letter of disability and admitted all the work samples and recomendation letters.

You can have the entire file (summary of test scores, GBRS score/commment, school work samples) that the AAP committee reviewed. This process is the AART's area, they should know this. If you don't get the whole file, make the ask to the principal. cc:ing the AART.

At GMU it was $380. I've heard it's a bit higher with private psychologists.

Oh I meant the score.
