White people have benefited from government programs that excluded blacks for 100+ years. Where are the black-specific programs?

Sounds good to me. But there is a lot of noise around this subject, and a fair amount of it seems to be more interested in fixing the blame than fixing the problem.

That's my complaint. Reparations are about fixing blame. If it were about the wealth gap, they would stick to the present.

If they had an equal opportunity to go to college there would be a proportionate number of black college students. There are fewer black students because they still have LESS opportunity - even with affirmative action.

Of course not, but given the last 400 years it’s been harder for blacks people to open businesses. Even today it’s still harder because they have less wealth. This is another wealth begets wealth. Even with these loans there still isn’t comparable opportunity.

In the present, black people are still experiencing the residual harm from prior US policies as well as current system racism. Addressing the wealth gap - through formal reparations or other program - is the best way to make amends and correct for the future.

My great grandfather came over from Italy in 1901 and was a manual laborer scraping by for the rest of his life. He had it rough too. But he traveled here of his own free will. And he was able to live with his family. His kids weren’t sold off like property. He didn’t lose his name, language, religion, or culture. His kids were able to go to school and get better jobs. Those kids moved around. None got lynched. There were no US policies limiting his options for housing & banking. So he had it tough, but it wasn’t really comparable.

That doesn’t change the fact that PP is racist and should sit TF down.
