+1 Nobody is guaranteed wealth. Opportunity, yes. |
When were black people paid reparations in the US? White people have benefited from government programs that excluded blacks for 100+ years. Where are the black-specific programs? |
Yes, there is an enormous opportunity gap. Wealth brings opportunity. That’s the whole point. |
Go tell that to the millions of Vietnamese and Chileans who came here with no money at all after we bombed their countries to death. |
That's my complaint. Reparations are about fixing blame. If it were about the wealth gap, they would stick to the present. |
Racist trash like you have had enough privilege. Sit TF down. |
DP: you, you, YOU, are pure racist trash. Sit TF down. |
Affirmative action What % of black HS seniors went to college vs. % of white seniors in 2019? You explain this to me: why, having an affirmative action benefit, black HS still go to college less than white or asian students? Title I funding in schools (not specifically for minorities, but they certainly benefit) What were standardized testing scores for black elementary students vs. white students in 2019? What? Loans specifically for minority owned businesses What % of businesses are black-owned? Do you expect white people to open a business for blacks and to handle it to them? If the black person actually wants to open a business, he/she has to do it, not white or Asian guy. Grants and scholarships specifically for minority students What % of non-FA scholarships go to black students? Non-FA scholarships are given for merits and special achievements, not for the color of your skin. I'm sure there are tons more. ^^ Sorry, you need some #s to back those up claims of “the same, or MORE, opportunities”. |
How exactly am I racist trash? |
Your comments show the racist trash you are. |
Affirmative action What % of black HS seniors went to college vs. % of white seniors in 2019? You explain this to me: why, having an affirmative action benefit, black HS still go to college less than white or asian students? If they had an equal opportunity to go to college there would be a proportionate number of black college students. There are fewer black students because they still have LESS opportunity - even with affirmative action. Title I funding in schools (not specifically for minorities, but they certainly benefit) What were standardized testing scores for black elementary students vs. white students in 2019? What? If black students had equal opportunity for early/elementary school education their scores would be on par for white students. They aren’t because they have LESS opportunity - even with title 1 funding. Loans specifically for minority owned businesses What % of businesses are black-owned? Do you expect white people to open a business for blacks and to handle it to them? If the black person actually wants to open a business, he/she has to do it, not white or Asian guy. Of course not, but given the last 400 years it’s been harder for blacks people to open businesses. Even today it’s still harder because they have less wealth. This is another wealth begets wealth. Even with these loans there still isn’t comparable opportunity. Grants and scholarships specifically for minority students What % of non-FA scholarships go to black students? Non-FA scholarships are given for merits and special achievements, not for the color of your skin. Sorry? Thought you were asking about scholarships specifically for blacks people. |
How on earth do my comments make me a racist? |
DP here. Why? Because Sicilian immigrants 100 years ago had such a great life? |
In the present, black people are still experiencing the residual harm from prior US policies as well as current system racism. Addressing the wealth gap - through formal reparations or other program - is the best way to make amends and correct for the future. |
My great grandfather came over from Italy in 1901 and was a manual laborer scraping by for the rest of his life. He had it rough too. But he traveled here of his own free will. And he was able to live with his family. His kids weren’t sold off like property. He didn’t lose his name, language, religion, or culture. His kids were able to go to school and get better jobs. Those kids moved around. None got lynched. There were no US policies limiting his options for housing & banking. So he had it tough, but it wasn’t really comparable. That doesn’t change the fact that PP is racist and should sit TF down. |
