I guess Jeff Cup must be too far for Pipeline to go. Not a real big presence at the top. |
Considering it is one of the biggest showcases on the East Coast the whole point of ECNL and DA begin to make some sense for even the modest college bound player. |
You folks are either clueless or complete muppets. If you are asking about Pipeline, Loudon or Arlington you clearly kniow little about youth soccer. The entire point of many of the posts above is to counter the view that ECNL/DA is the only game in town. There are 10+ local clubs that field teams that will serve as a platform to get stronger players to Div. I soccer or higher.
I met a coach recently at the Bethesda tournament. His club had recently JV'd with a French club but was formerly part of OBGC. The club is not ECNL but is ranked in the top 10 nationally ahead of any ECNL team from the area. They won Bethesda Cup, Disney, WAGs and CASL (U-19). For you morons who insist that non-ECNL/DA teams can't compete and provide a platform to DI or higher, please do some research. ECNL/DA are agreat options but they are not the only options. Loudon, Arlington and Pipeline are just three examples of clubs that are not ECNL/DA but still compete and provide a platform. There are hundreds of talented players in this area that could play ECNL/DA but are not and they are all heading to top schools. https://www.fcgirondinsdebordeauxusa.com/ |
but, but... those clubs are now ECNL/DA... |
No need for abuse. Just looking at the top bracket of the last two years of Jeff Cup Girls Showcase U-15,16,17, I found only one pipeline team, no ASA, no Loudoun. When you say they compete, are you referring to the younger ages? |
^^
Lost in all this is that from late elementary to middle school years, you absolutely shouldn't have to worry about DA or ECNL in order to play in college. One of these teams like Pipeline should be more then sufficient. Sad that the powerhouse Loudouns and Arlingtons won't be like Pipeline now at those ages. I agree that it may not be necessary at all, but definitely not necessary at these ages. Having the U13 Pilot be in the mid-Atlantic is only exciting for the rich, with 10K a year and time to burn, and the 1% with college dreams in 6-7th grade. Most 7th graders are still enjoying all sorts of things and sports! Now they will have the added pressure of 4x weekly training to stay with friends, or else do the B team where you are not elite and not committed enough to hack it. You should all be sad, with a few exceptions. This wide net nonsense has got to go. |
Nobody said ECNL or DA were the only options. ALL anyone has ever said is if you are going to play outside of that structure you have to do your homework and work a little harder to get your kid noticed. |
As was written above, these clubs already demonstrated that they can compete now they want to remain competitive, which means that they have to maheve the same advantages as Bethesda, McLean and FCV. |
Pipeline is only good at the younger ages and then U16 and U18 (the two age groups not offered by DA) |
Is this the argument for why they are going ECNL/DA? I get why they would want to.. I thought the argument was ECNL/DA is not needed because these clubs were competitive enough without the league and didn't need to follow the herd. |
From what I've heard from the ASA kids facing U13 next year, is that most of them want to stay on their respective teams and not do DA. Yes, they may try out, but many have other sports they love and don't want to give up for the crazy schedule. This U13 DA will likely pull kids from other areas to ASA, but not really interrupt the existing teams, except for a handful of girls. |
If strong ASA kids are not going to play on their DA then the club will not draw much outside talent. |
You under estimate the draw. Parents really want their kids to play DA. DA will be the top team. They will get the girls. Get three top girls from Arlington and one or two of the top girls from the surrounding clubs and you have a pretty good team. How many clubs are next to Arlington? |
And yet the claim is being made that their own kids do not want to play in DA. |
