RIP Prince

It was likely the painkillers prescribed for his hips. There's a report that an addiction specialist flew out there to meet with him in the morning and he's the one that called 911. Andrew something.

Thank you -- I listened and cried like a baby. Thank you and soar on, Prince.

OMG, that was amazing. He was a f'ing genius. I am sooooo sorry I never got to see him live. As for everyone talking about addiction & addicts - I can guarantee you that not a single person alive aspires to addiction. And I'd also bet everything I have that any addict would rather be clean. I don't know if he was addicted or not. I don't care one way or the other except to feel incredible compassion for him and the pain (mental, physical, whatever) that he must have been in.

PRINCE FAN GIRL HERE. sorry for screaming, but the line is "It's been 7 HOURS and 15 days..."

Nothing compares 2u

No. It is 7 hours and 13 days. Sinead changed the lyrics in her rendition.

+1

A real Prince fan girl should know that

He may have become addicted to pain medicine, but was not an addiction borne of hard partying that included recreational drug use.
He was known for deliberately steering clear of people who use drugs.
He kicked Vanity out of Purple Rain due to her drug use!!
I read that his staff had to do random drug testing.

Someone should have drug tested HIM.

Does drug testing test for prescription pain meds?

This is not true. Vanity was the lead singer for Vanity 6 until 1983 when she abruptly chose to leave the group. Vanity was slated to play the leading lady in Purple Rain movie but when she left Prince replaced her with Apollonia. Purple Rain the movie premiered in 1984 and the Purple Rain tour was in 1985. Vanity was already gone by then, Sheila E and Apolloina 6 were the opening acts. The only tour vanity was on with Prince was the Triple Threat tour in 1982 and 1983, also included were The Time.

I was talking about the movie and not the tour.

The paternity testing circus is about to start.

What I can't get past is why his death was not preventable.

You can't get past the fact that his death was preventable. The intersection of chronic pain, religion, opiates, and trying to maintain privacy in a kardashian world is a dangerous place. I think Prince's need for extreme privacy and his reliance on a tight, trusted circle ultimately contributed to his dependence on opiates. People like Prince don't listen to outsiders. They have to maintain control at all times. I think he would still be alive today if one the people in his circle said "you WILL stay at this hospital in IL!" But then that person risks getting fired and getting kicked out of the inner circle. Gravy train and access afforded by an association with Prince ends.

It's terrible. I'm so sad that he's gone.

ITA.

Money=power, no doubt about that. At all.

Prince was going to do what he was going to do. Plus, he was likely dependent on pain killers. I am not clear if he had his hip replaced or not, but he was clearly in pain, and clearly taking pain killers, and probably addicted to those pain killers. I don't think he had control over his drug use, like he had control over his creative life. I think he was doing the best he could, while trying to maintain his privacy he so highly valued.

What?

The bank Bremer Trust was authorized to have his blood paternity tested if necessary because people are coming out of the woodwork claiming Prince was their father or somehow related. It's ridiculous since they only want the money obviously and they didn't care about making themselves known when he was alive. It's unlikely he had any other offspring since his own child did not survive. Even if someone is his child, if he didn't know it, why would he want someone he never met to have his money? Hopefully they can squash any claims people are making. You can see why he'd want privacy with people like that out there. I think it was hard for him to admit any problems and get help because he didn't want to be exposed.
