Cop Suspended After Video Emerges Of Brutal Arrests At Teen Pool Party (In McKinney Texas)

The Police respond to reports of a fight, trespassing and vandalism and when they get there try to get things under control the teens start mouthing off. He goes to arrest one and suddenly other quickly approach, He doesn't know their intentions or if they have weapons. He pulls a gun out to defend himself and possibly scare them away.
Meanwhile the one he was trying to arrest is still mouthing off and not cooperating.................

The organizer of the pool party didnt have permission from the pool to have the party, more kids showed up than expected.
There is a lot more to this story than the brief video.

Mom of a black daughter here, My kid will be taught to respect others including the Police. So many kids now have no respect for anyone else.

That officer looked like one of those terriers trained only to go after a certain animal. In this case it was black people, he completely ignored any white person standing around and lurched at blacks.
His grandchildren will someday see the shameful video.

The 'girl' was acting like a spoiled little brat. What do you think would happen if he went up to her and said "I'd really like you to leave please". Wasn't that tried at least once? Did they listen? No. Why not?

If they didn't comply, I think he should have waited for his backup instead of all that circling around, pointing the guns and cursing at the community. Shouldn't he have been trained to de-escalate? Shouldn't he have waited for backup, since there was no indication of crime other than trespassing? We can play "should have" all day long with both the officer and the teens, but fact is the officer was the adult and the public servant, so of all those involved he's the one who was more in the wrong.

Okay, now I don't know what to do. I work really hard at not being characterized as an "Angry Black Woman", so I really had to hold my tongue.

I called Becky's mom. Said our usual pleasantries, discussed summer plans and all that. I then say "Susie, Larla was talking to Becky about the swim party on Wednesday and she seems to have some concerns." Before I could any further, Susie says "Yeah, I know. Becky doesn't want folks at the pool to be concerned about Larla being there. You know with all this stuff going on in the media, I too am concerned. So I don't know." I was speechless and really didn't know what to say for a moment. I was really trying to measure my response. I say "Susie, I really don't know what to say, is Larla invited or not? Honestly its' not a big deal you know, because we have a pool. Larla and Becky have been good friends for a couple of years and I would hate for this to come between them or us. Larla was really surprised that Becky didn't know if she could come to the party because she is black. Do you think members of your club would cause problems for my daughter? She says flatly "I don't know". I say "Are there any other black members?" She says "I'm sure there are, but we haven't seen any at the pool since I've been a member." I then say "Susie, I appreciate the invite, but Larla won't be coming. You all have a great summer and I hope Becky has a nice party. Thanks." I hung up.

I told my little Larla she would not be going to the party, she was disappointed. I told her she could have a few friends over to our private home pool over the weekend if she wanted. She then asks if she should/could invite Becky? I say I don't know, I'll have to ask DH. My DD likes Becky, I like her too. But I don't if I can allow this friendship to continue because it appears that neither Susie or Becky would stand up for my DD if in their presence some racist $hit went down.

I'm just speechless. These are the really difficult conversations we have to have.

Do they go to private school? I have a friend who removed her son from private school because she kept encountering these types of situations.

I didn't say it was illegal. It isn't a good idea though, especially in a highly chaotic scene like that.

I've taught my children to be respectful (to everyone) and to always obey/follow orders from the police and emergency personel. If the police were in the wrong our lawyer can sort it out later.

Better that then injured in the chaos, beaten, tasered or dead.

Have you heard of Kalief Browder? What do you think about him being held at Rikers for two years (right to due process not granted)? Regarding this, can you understand why some families do not share your faith re: the equity of the justice system?

Have you heard of Freddy Gray? Police were wrong; he never even made it to the precinct, much less to his lawyer.

Those are rather unique cases. I don't think I'll base my parenting choices on them.

I apologize on behalf of my race. Many of us are ashamed, of this and of the past. I do what I can. I lecture racist relatives, vote Dem, call out racism where I see it, and advocate for the minority people I know at work. Not sure what more I can do.

The cop had no idea what he wanted to do. He wanted them to leave. Then he wanted them to get on the ground. Then he picked out a 14 year old girl who was doing nothing threatening and manhandled her which provoked a few of her friends to move toward him to protest. They were not threatening him but he escalated it even further by drawing his gun. Even the black teens who complied with his demands were treated badly for no reason.
