This crime is no different than what Marilyn Mosby or Trump were prosecuted for, false declarations.

No one disputes that he claimed to not abuse drugs on the form. No one disputes that his book proves that this was a false declaration. The fact that his book is about his struggles with addiction irrelevant.

You are delusional. Trump didn’t just lie on a form. He committed election fraud and tax fraud.

What is tax fraud? He misrepresented his business costs on tax forms.

He disguised a reimbursement to his coconspirator for hush money that had been paid to benefit his campaign as a tax deductible expense for legal services. That’s business fraud to commit tax fraud and campaign finance fraud.

Exactly. And Hunter Biden misrepresented his drug use on a legal form in order to purchase a gun that he would not otherwise have been legally allowed to purchase.

Not really. The form asks if you are “addict” or “have an addiction”.

Did Hunter think of himself as an addict at that time or just somebody who used drugs? The prosecution is going to have to prove the former. Very gray area.

of course if the jury decides to acquit or is hung, MAGA heads will explode.

Correct. His defense is going to argue that Hunter had just completed an 11-day rehabilitation program and lived with a sober companion and believe he was not a present tense user or addict.

Very grey (and weak) argument from the prosecution.

Good thing the prosecutors have evidence like his own memoir, texts and bank records.

NY Times:
“Ms. Jensen painstakingly posted texts from Mr. Biden and the people who sold, or obtained, crack for him on screens throughout the courtroom, painting a picture of a desperate man who seemed to spend every waking minute in mid-2018 hunting for drugs.

She juxtaposed those patterns with his cash withdrawals that averaged a staggering $50,000 a month that fall, in an effort to connect his runaway spending to his out-of-control addiction. That included a $5,000 withdrawal on Oct. 12, 2018, the day he bought the weapon.“

I'm not sure his memoir can be submitted as evidence.

This is so stupid. If it is not an objective standard then there is no point to the declaration. He was in fact a drug addict. End of story.

It is not so different than declaring that you will reside in a home in order to receive a conforming mortgage. It doesn’t matter what your belief or intent is, what matters is what you do.

Millions of other gun owners in America are also addicts who lied on their 4473 and probably shouldn't be allowed to own guns. Yet none of them are getting investigated and prosecuted for it. It's purely political. End of story.

The prosecutors played lengthy bits from the audiobook of the memoir to the jury already.

How many of them published a memoir detailing their addiction during the same period? I mean come on.

Let’s apply this logic to domestic violence or sexual assault.

Are we supposed to look the other way while he publishes a book about his addition and has huge bank withdrawals the same day he bought a gun, because we are worried his dad will be upset?

You're supposed to be normal. Not charge him for something that no one is ever charged with.

Is this hard?

It’s not hard to see that often the evidence that a person was addicted at the time of a gun application isn’t a hugely publicized memoir.

Where have you been? The case has been given to a jury. And, yes, the memoir was submitted as evidence.
In fact, the jury heard parts of it in Hunter Biden's voice.....

NP. No. And if the jury is hung we can all accept that. Or should the jury convict HB so as not to upset Trump? Because there have been several posters here on this thread, saying that Hunter better be found guilty or else we’ll have Trump’s revenge.
