Highland park IL shooting

Highland Park is heavily Jewish, heavily Democratic, and has an anti-gun city ordinance. Those aren’t the “family values“ that MAGAs like.

There’s another woman in a moms group here claiming she, her husband, and their 2 year old were supposed to be on a float, but they decided to skip the parade because of Highland Park’s gun laws. You just can’t argue with crazy. Another woman is asking how we can build giant brick walls around all our elementary schools.

I am not sure. I live in a western suburb. My friend lives in Deerfield and she is the one who shared the post with me. If you search the author's name, Rachael Wachstein you will see her public Facebook page. It has some posts from other people who corroborate what she said.

When you think of the lives we would have saved if we’d kept the assault weapons ban and added to it, it makes you want to cry. If we’d banned assault weapons and extended magazines after Sandy Hook, look at the lives we would have saved.

Work, donate, march, and vote to change the laws. Because we all know it will happen again.

It’s the guns.

Oh come on, it's the doggone "mental health." That's the problem, not the retail access to assault rifles.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10991891/Highland-Park-shooter-posted-pics-teen-sex-doll-hanging-spouted-racist-posts.html

"Crimo used a legally purchased Smith & Wesson M&P 15 to carry out the attack. He bought the weapon for $800."

Loner incel freaks have a RIGHT to assault rifles. Who are we to say they don't???

When's the next mass shooting scheduled for? Republicans 4 Ever!

Don’t forget overwhelming UMC. Not too many trailer parks or lifted F150s to be found on the North Shore.

Here's a post from a Highland Park woman:
Bobby Crimo is NOT a Lone Wolf

On July 4th 2022 I was heading to breakfast at the Walker Brothers restaurant downtown Highland Park with my mother and 17 year old high school student. The rest of my family was on their way back from a weekend trip. I told my husband and my youngest not to hurry back for the parade but instead to be home by 2:00 pm for a backyard party with friends. At 10:00 am, my mother picked us up. We drove the couple of blocks and parked in front of a bagel shop. There was a series of loud pops when we exited the car. My brain processed them as fireworks. As we turned onto Central Avenue, people ran, leaving wagons abandoned in the street. In my head, I thought that they were going home since the parade had just passed.

My 17-year old kept saying that something isn’t right, people were fleeing, not just going home. It didn’t register until I heard the wails of people calling for their family members. We stood there for a moment and then it hit me… there was a shooting. We left the scene and began hearing from friends. They described the bodies in the street, the wounded bleeding out, the confusion and mass hysteria that swept over the crowd as they realized what was happening.

A friend of mine with military training ran to the dead, dying, and injured and helped as best they could to keep these people from bleeding out until the ambulances arrived. The shooter was perched on Uncle Dan’s rooftop. He climbed up a ladder in the alleyway and lay in wait. 6 are confirmed dead so far with nearly 30 wounded.

The shooter wasn’t caught immediately. The police seemed just as stunned and unprepared as the rest of us. The town went on lockdown as the police and FBI worked to uncover his identity and find him. When it was announced around 6 pm that the suspect was caught, his face and identity were known to me. In fact, had I been asked for a short list of people in the area who I thought had the potential and motivation to cause such harm and destruction in our community, his name would have likely been on the list. What I know for certain is that the shooter knew my name, address, and make and model of my car. He and his associates had doxxed me, creating a flyer calling me a dangerous Communist with my picture, name, address, and a call to action that I must be stopped. Why was I on the radar of a 20 year old kid and his band of hoodlum friends? Because I dared to counter-protest their Stop the Steal events in 2020.

I’ve heard on CNN and other news sources that there are only a few photos of the shooter with Trump Flags and that his major motivator was a love of death and destruction. This is blatantly false. There are multiple news articles from the Patch and Chicago Tribune featuring photos of the shooter at these MAGA events. I recognized him right away as part of the group of local angry white young men who had previously waited for me after protests, to threaten and harassed me, and came to a Protect the Results vigil on December 12, 2020 in Highland Park’s Sunset Park where they did the nazi salute multiple times and screamed the following at our small group through a bullhorn…
“We refuse to accept a socialist, communist and anarchist America. We pledge to stop a Biden led communist regime that will kill the American Dream and the traditional way of American life. We demand Biden Harris never. We will not stop until the Antifa scum and Black Lives Matter monkeys get put in their place. Enough of this Left-wing violence.”

The police were there. They did nothing other than tell us to leave the park at dusk when we were already heading to our cars.
In Northbrook, the Stop the Steal rallies were violent. People who I was counter-protesting with were hit in the head with thick flag poles by the future shooter and his associates. The police did little when their side crossed the street to confront us repeatedly.

I did reach out to the police and so have others. We’ve been speaking out about the harassment and behavior of local MAGA fanatics but have been ignored, brushed aside, or even made to feel as if we provoked them.

The shooter joined a group of pro-Trump and militia supporters in the summer of 2020 to intimidate residents with their aggressive “Trump Train” through the heart of the old downtown, the location of his future mass shooting.

The shooter is not a surprise. Don’t believe the news reports. Bobby Crimo was a known agitator and there could have been interventions before my neighbors' bodies lay strewn across the parade route. This is a fact.

He is a homegrown terrorist who flew under the radar because no one was willing to see the signs. There are others like him that are Highlander more likely in my opinion to cause harm and devastation in Highland Park and surrounding communities. We know their names. We know their history of extremism. They walk amongst us waiting for the next opportunity to unleash their fascist desires of control and death on our communities. I have called the police. I have called the FBI. I have spoken out publicly and I continue to do so despite making myself a target.

The truth is slowly leaking out as some media outlets do the investigative work that should be done. You will see that Robert Crimo wasn’t just a crazy person with violent tendencies, he was part of an organized movement to instill fear in anyone brave enough to oppose the fascist threat to our country.

He’s no lone wolf. There are a hundred “Bobby Crimos” waiting in the wings for the chance to punish liberal America and anyone who they see as not embodying “traditional American family values”.
I encourage anyone who reads this to do a little research on Bobby Crimo and his associates. It’s all there in news articles, photos, and videos. Yesterday was a MAGA-inspired crime against the community of Highland Park and humanity at large. I have put so much energy into trying to bring attention to this issue with little impact. Hopefully, some of you will help me keep the pressure on our law enforcement and community leaders to do something before the next attack.

This is why it is extremely important to talk about how Crimo is a MAGA Trumpist. I realize that the Trump supporters are desperate to hide this truth. But it is critically important that this attack be known as the political terrorism it is.

+1
Right wing domestic terrorism isn’t going to go away as long as it goes unaddressed.

Any R who votes against it voted against little Aiden and his suffering. Put it on record and vote them out so we can get some sensible gun laws enacted. R's are standing in the way and we're all sitting targets.

I know this is coming from a good place but Aiden's family is asking that his name and picture NOT be used for any bill. They've kindly asked people to spread the word. They appreciate the support but they would like peace and privacy while they grieve.

There are an untold number of people in America who suffer from a form of mental illness. The overwhelming majority don’t commit mass murder. Some might get facial tattoos. Many are known to law enforcement from prior contacts. Some spend their waking hours posting crazy sh+t on the internet. (QAnon snyine?) some might even be what you consider to be unattractive. Nobody is monitoring every internet posting. And as far as we know he never explicitly threatened anyone. What’s your point?

He violated no law and none of the red flags in IL law. Law enforcement cannot monitor round the clock the 10s of millions of Americans with mental health issues. Ban the riffles.

Totally disagree. Our country has tipped way over trying to protect the rights of criminals and the mentally ill. They need to be insttutionalized, in group home supervision, and/or under forced medications.

People with mental illness aren’t to be equated with criminals. They have constitutional, civil and human rights. What the hell is wrong with you? Do you know anything about congregate residential facilities for people with mental illness? Do you want one operating next door to your home? I didn’t think so. And most states closed their institutional facilities for people with mental illness and/or intellectual disabilities many years ago. Maybe you are the one who needs to be under forced medication.

1/3 of the country is diagnosed with a mental health illness every year. Probably higher since many go undiagnosed. We cant’t lock up or monitor 1/3 of the country.

We can lock up the more severe cases.

Other countries also have severely mental ill folks. But unlike here in the US, they don’t have easy access to guns.

+1 And “mental health” is only a deflection from guns. Pro-gun pols never actually do anything about mental health except bring it up when we yell about guns.

Will we forget about this shooting too or finally ban all assault firearms and extended magazines?

And put Manchin, McConnell and all of them on record as to why the fing filibuster is more important than saving one more gd life. Don't come at with me, well we have a filibuster and this isn't how politics work blah blah blah. We're talking about people's lives at stake-everyone is a target now. This guy didn't know whether he was shooting D's or R's--it didn't matter to him so we need to take politics out of this, stand up to the fing gun lobby and get assault weapons out of the mainstream market and tighten up gun laws on the books--this guy slipped through bc his dad bought his gun for him. That's got to change. All of this has to change and if our leaders are willing to change it, VOTE THEM OUT.

A man killed 60 and wounded 400 in Las Vegas 5 years ago and it’s essentially gone from our collective memory. How many died in this one? 8? It’s a nothingburger, as they say.

We won’t forget. It’s just that there will be thousands more.

The media has really downplayed the online radicalization angle of all these shooters. These young men are being recruited, radicalized, and fed racist/misogynistic/anti-Semitic content online. Just like the young Islamic men who were radicalized by Al Qaeda. It’s the same process of hate and resulting violence.

And when it gets voted down, can we then sue every Republican who voted against it when the next inevitable mass shooting by assault weapon has?

As public officials, maybe they have indemnity. But could their organizing and supporting bodies like GOP / RNC be sued? And certainly, every pro-gun lobbying group.

The best way to get this past is to rally around your Gov ( Pziter ) SP ? and Sen. Durbin and have them bring a permanent assault weapons ban to a full vote in Congress

Agree with every other poster who said " force a Vote and get them All on record... then vote those members of Congress who oppose the safety of American children - in favor of their own NRA campaign donations - out of Office

We also need to do something about gerrymandering because the truth is they really only have 40% of the voting base- the gerry mandering gives them 60%

This has made our laws and SCOTUS decisions out of step with what most Americans are demanding and , ultimately, that disconnect undermines social stability and the rule of law

I really think the content they are getting sucked into online might be an FSB PSYOPS

Don't you see the parallels in how Putin goes after Gay Pride and stirs that same issue in Hungary

Yes, we need to ban the Assault Weapons, but also the Internet needs to be regulated like NBC, ABC, CBS were back when Kronkite was who America turned to get the balanced, truthful news

Instead, these media mouth pieces just stir hate and it gets amplified on the Internet- its really sick
