Fire in upper NW?

I totally agree. So implausible that the assistant did anything other than inadvertently cause news of the money to get out.

This view is shocking to me. I have been in years over this little boy and his family. I don't think any black person would take offense. SMH

Nobody actually made such a suggestion. Some posters appear to be replying to imaginary posts rather than actual posts. I said that the Washington Post might be limiting its coverage of this crime because it doesn't want to appear to be giving overwhelming coverage to these murders when it ignores so many other murders in the city. That in no way suggests that black people are not horrified and appalled by this crime, but rather that the Post and its readers are not necessarily horrified or even interested in the significantly larger number of murders that occur regularly in the city.

Some posters have suggested that the Post is giving adequate coverage to this crime and perhaps that is correct. But, my own experience is that I am finding more relevant and more frequent coverage from the local TV stations (via their websites). The television reporters in my experience have been more active in updating Twitter as well.

Regardless, the primary point of my earlier post was that the Post should cover other murders more.
Different pp here. This argument makes sense. The post I responded to (in a similar shocked manner as the pp here) did not lay out that rationale. It just said that the WaPo was worried about offending its black readers without explaining why. There are a few DCUMers who think that the black community here is monolithic and powerful and so I assumed the post was written by one of them, arguing that the black community would be offended by coverage of a black perpetrator. I'm heartened to know that it might not have been meant that way. Thanks for the clarification.

No media site has anything new. Someone could write a story about Savvas' family's emigration to America or something, or how Savvas and Amy met, but it wouldn't relate to the crime or its resolution.

+1. I don't think their not posting has to do w/ anything other than this: just not having new information to share. In that case, good on them for not writing a million stories that say nothing new or, worse, that start making things up altogether in an attempt to draw in readers (as outlets such as the Daily Mail seem to like to do)

The Post is covering this just fine and responsibly. For verified facts read the Post. For rumors read the Daily Mail. For wild speculation read this thread.

"The truck belongs to Amerit Fleet Solutions, and is basically a rolling garage, equipped to service and repair vehicles away from any fixed location. Spokeswoman Karen Vinton said the California-based company is aware that the truck was involved, and is cooperating with authorities."

Let me preface this by saying I believe the assistant to be completely innocent. However, I did notice in one of the assistant's pictures (from a link no longer available here), that he mentioned doing some welding, but said he wasn't very good at it. Another weird coincidence since Wint was a welder by trade. Do all race car drivers have to learn welding to maintain their vehicles?
Would welding be a service provided by an Amerifleet vehicle? Wint had a relative who had recently been let go from AIW, were they a welder? Were they the one driving that truck?

Just some random thoughts.

Here is a video that describes the Mobile Service Centers. It does mention that the truck carries welding equipment. It also appears that this is not a truck that you rent, but rather a service that you hire. The truck is driven by a trained technician who is the one that actually does the maintenance work.

Thank-you for posting this link! I would love to know who was driving that truck, and what kind of welding experience they have.

Has anyone seen the video of this kid. Seriously I am convinced it's the person in the person of interest video. Take a look at the video of Dw on his moms FB page. You can clearly see what his built is like and how he moves.

Wint and the sister have the same mom? I'm not finding a video on her page. Just graduation pictures.

The video is on the Moms page. She has 3 or so videos. The one of Wint is on Moms page and also on Moms page is a lot of Prom pictures. I found the prom dates page and he has a video of him dancing. I am almost convinced that he is the person running with the bucket.

Not sure if Wint and sister have the same mom but he is in the video.

Am I allowed to post his Name?

don't.

As it should, when the PP thinks a 3-day lapse of no mention at all is just fine and responsible for a newspaper in a city in which such a heinous crime occurred; however, I'm sure the editors have their reasons.

I find it surprising, but the UK's Daily Mail has been doing much better reporting on this than WaPo.

I should have been more clear, the bolded above is the part that made me chuckle . Not that I think any of this is funny, not by a long shot.

Yikes, I bolded it wrong: the chuckle part was about the wild speculations on this thread.

All the murders are horrific but what haunts me most is that little boy. Someone had some severe rage/hate against him to do what they did. They didn't just kill him, they destroyed him. Why ?

I can't help but think someone known to this child envied him, was jealous to the point of homicidal hate. So much hate they wanted him to suffer.

Richie Rich kid living in a Richie Rich world. A world someone wanted but couldn't have.

Poor baby. His last moments on Earth were filled with fear and pain.

PP here. I knew what you meant, and it was funny. I was just being a little snarky because I think it's ridiculous that WAPO hasn't provided any updates.

p.s. They do not have to be a thug to have been in on it-they do not have to have a criminal background, they just have to be greedy, envious and wanting of power, and wealth (and access to nice cars).

Something about this story reminds me of the movie six degrees of separation-only the ending for the S's sadly is far more tragic than the Hollywood movie.
