What age did you stop using a bucket car seat?

DD is 18 pounds and just shy of 6 months. The car seat is becoming unmanageable to carry in and out of daycare. I'm petite, under 5 feet and weigh 90 pounds and just don't want to deal with it anymore if there is a safe alternative. When did others stop using theirs?

Five months. DD went into a RF britax roundabout.

I stopped when DD#1 and #2 outgrew it in length. For my Chicco KeyFit 30, it was 30". Both were about 7-8 months at the time, but I have tall girls (>95%).

Can you use a stroller to help transport the bucket seat? It was invaluable for keeping sleeping babies happy and I so wish they were made in toddler sizes.

You know you don't have to carry them both together, right?

With DS we went to 11 months, but had long stopped carrying him around him in it.

Just because it comes in and out of the car doesn't mean you have to. My second was tiny and she stayed in the bucket for a year but I very rarely took it out of the car from day 1.

Can your DD sit up without support? I think mine was 7 months before she could sit up reliably in a shopping car without slouching over. That was the only reason I kept her in the bucket. Absolutely hated it but it was a lifesaver when we were running errands and I could just plop the car seat in the back of a shopping cart.

I need to take it out because my DH picks her up. We leave the car seat at daycare. I could take her out of the bucket and walk her in and then come back to get the car seat later as someone recommended. I guess I just prefer to make one trip!

Mine outgrew it in length at 5 months. It sucked BC he couldn't even sit up unassisted at that point.

You're going to need two convertible seats eventually. Just put one in one car and keep the bucket in the other.

Thanks, OP for posting this. I'm debating getting rid of our bucket seat for our 7 month old currently. He's smaller than your DD though. 16 pounds and not sitting up on his own. Are bucket seats safer?

We used it until about 15 months, but I stopped carrying around 9 months. My DH still carried it up until the end.

10 months... DS was ok in the weight department but was starting to get too tall for the seat. Loves his new seat and car rides have less crying and wimpering than before.
