What age did you stop using a bucket car seat?

Again, you know you can take out just your baby and leave the seat in, right?

Switch DS 11 weeks. That was nine years ago and we had a leg perego primo viaggio. It was narrow. Switch DD at 14 months. We used a graco that went to 30 inches and 32 lbs I believe. We stopped removing it from the car when she was 10 months though. Prior to that we used a stroller frame for car seats whenever we had to take it out of the car. I honestly don't think I ever just carried DD in the infant bucket.

PP here. Switched not switch.

Again, you realize that some of us share drop off and pick up duty with our spouses, right? The seat's got to come out at some point and getting the kid settled in daycare and then making another trip in with the car seat is a pretty dumb idea when we all know we're going to have to get the convertible seats eventually anyway.

Outgrew it at a year old, but never really carried it with baby past the newborn stage when he'd be asleep in it. I had to do it once after his 9 month appointment when he fell asleep in the car on the way back, and that was hard enough! I'm built like you.

Around 7 months, when he was getting close to outgrowing it by seated height (my kid has a long torso with comparatively short legs, so he outgrew it before he hit the official height limit listed). By then I don't think I was carrying it much other than between the house and the car.

Yep. And it's handy to buy just one so you know if you like it before buying for the other car.

Good idea! I'm not loving my convertible seat and after a year with it, I will probably buy a different one for DS#2 when the time comes.

11 months. Our neighbor still uses it for her 16 month old. She's about average- maybe a little smaller, but I know my DS still would have been under the weight limit for ours (britax) right now at 14 months, but I think he'd be pushing it for height or already surpassed it, he was getting close at 11 months and the convertible seemed more comfy for the long drive at the holidays.

6 months right before we went on a long car trip. He was so much more comfortable in that seat.

I am the PP with the 20 lb baby I'm lugging. Yes, my DH does drop off, I do pick up, so for now we are leaving the seat there. We will be getting two convertible seats soon and will stop lugging her around, but until then...

18 mths bc DD was very small, still only 19 lbs when we switched her.

14 months with DD. Could have used it longer with her since she was (and still is) small (height and weight), but by 14 months it was just easier to get her in and out of the convertible seat. DS is 9 months and still in the bucket seat and probably will be for at least a few more months. He's also small.

People are suggesting getting a convertible for the other car. That accommodates the shared drop-off/pick-up. The point is just that you don't have to get a convertible for each car right away--you can use the bucket seat in one car without removing it until it's outgrown. And, as a PP noted, then you know for sure that you like the convertible you've chosen before investing in a second one, too.

I need to take it out because my DH picks her up. We leave the car seat at daycare. I could take her out of the bucket and walk her in and then come back to get the car seat later as someone recommended. I guess I just prefer to make one trip!

+1. I switched to convertible around 10 months and 17 lbs. I figured we would need to switch eventually and she didn't have that much more room on height.

When we needed two seats, we moved to a convertible seat. DH used the bucket since he could still carry it, and I used the convertible.
