What age did you stop using a bucket car seat?

12 months. Our kid was really short.

Again, you know you can take out just your baby and leave the seat in, right?

Again, you realize that some of us share drop off and pick up duty with our spouses, right? The seat's got to come out at some point and getting the kid settled in daycare and then making another trip in with the car seat is a pretty dumb idea when we all know we're going to have to get the convertible seats eventually anyway.

People are suggesting getting a convertible for the other car. That accommodates the shared drop-off/pick-up. The point is just that you don't have to get a convertible for each car right away--you can use the bucket seat in one car without removing it until it's outgrown. And, as a PP noted, then you know for sure that you like the convertible you've chosen before investing in a second one, too.

This is what we did, and it worked out great. We weren't fans of the first convertible car seat that we bought, so when we finally had to get a second, we went with a different brand. Now we argue over who gets to drive the car with the "good car seat"

We stopped using ours at 4 months. DS was 95% for height and weight, and could sit up at that point. He hated the bucket seat, so we were eager to get him out of it.

There's no way I could have carried him around in it any longer.

12 months for 1st - only because she got carsick sitting backwards
18 months for 2nd - she still fit in the seat, but it expired when she was 18 months old (used same seat for both kids)

I stopped taking the infant seat in and out of the car around 6 months and we switched to the convertible when DD starting getting taller, around 10 months, I think. But honestly, some people use convertible seats from birth, so if you're uncomfortable now, just go ahead and get one of the convertible seats that has an infant insert (our Britax and Chicco both had them). I WISH I had switched to a convertible seat earlier, it is so much easier.

I need to take it out because my DH picks her up. We leave the car seat at daycare. I could take her out of the bucket and walk her in and then come back to get the car seat later as someone recommended. I guess I just prefer to make one trip!

You're going to need two convertible seats eventually. Just put one in one car and keep the bucket in the other.

This is what we did at about six months. We use one car more than the other, and kept the infant seat in that one.

I lugged my first until 7 months and about 17 lbs. almost 9 years later, I am ready to throw the seat I have now. These monsters go to 35 lbs, but there is no way in hell I'm carrying this baby more than a couple more weeks in this damn thing. I 'll leave it in my car.

Baby just turned 6 months and is close to 16 lbs.
