| Anyone get into Cleveland Elementary for PK3 and going? Are you in boundary? Any current Cleveland parents have thoughts? |
| There have been two people who posted they got into PK3 immersion. One was OOB. |
| We got into PK english, and are #4 on the wait list for the dual program. We are going to accept, and there is a small chance come August we might decide to pull out and do private preschool for another year instead. |
| You will be very pleased with Cleveland. The bilingual program is excellent. The PK K and 1st grade on the non bilingual side is great. Don't pass up the opportunity to be in a wonderful nurturing school! My little ones have been there for 2 years in the bilingual program and they love their school |
| We got into Cleveland bilingual and have a single digit waitlist number at IT. Would we be crazy to pick Cleveland over IT? |
| Probably crazy, yes. Cleveland is on the up and up, but not fully established, and the older grades have a ways to go. I'd be pretty inclined to go with IT. |
It depends on how much you want Spanish immersion. Cleveland is a great school. I don't think my friends with kids at ITS are more happy than I am with a kid at Cleveland, but my strong preference is language and proximity to where I live. It depends on your personal preference. I agree that the upper grades at Cleveland aren't perfect, but my impression of ITS (based on the experience of others), is that it's not perfect at every grade either. DCUM posters seem to want perfection, but it doesn't exist. I say: decide what you care about, pick a school, and do what you can to make it work for your kid. And then try to relax. If we lived in the suburbs we'd be stuck with whatever is there (or pay or move). The "choice" we get here is somewhat illusory - not every aspect of a school is perfect or even good, even HRCS or WOTP. |
| How is Cleveland not fully established? iTs has been open for less than five years! It's a charter, less established. cleveland has one of the longest running bilingual programs in Dc and has long been a high achieving school. Its teachers and former principal won many awards. It won a $250k grant from the citybridge foundation to further differentiate instruction based on ability. It is an amazing school! By less established, do you mean white people only discovered it recently? |
| We were matched with Cleveland bilingual track but haven't heard anything from Cleveland directly about enrollment or a new family orientation. Does anyone have previous experience or firsthand knowledge with how Cleveland usally handles this? Thanks! |
We were matched with the Cleveland PK3 non-bilingual track, and receive an email from the principal earlier this week. |
Fascinating! We have gotten nothing. What did the email say? Has anyone in the bilingual track gotten an email? |
Have you called the school? That's what I would do. |
Here's the email we got (I deleted our names). I corresponded with dawn over a few more emails and she was able to confirm our wait list number on the duel language class. So just call her or email. Welcome to Cleveland Elementary School. We are thrilled that your family has been matched to our PK3 program for next year. Please let me know if you have any questions or if you would like to visit the school. Best, Dawn Feltman |
We were also matched for PK3 (dual), and received an identical email. |
| Does the OOB admittee to the Cleveland dual language program have a sibling preference? Did anyone else get in to the dual language program from OOB? |
