We got into Cleveland bilingual and have a single digit waitlist number at IT. Would we be crazy to pick Cleveland over IT?
It depends on how much you want Spanish immersion. Cleveland is a great school. I don't think my friends with kids at ITS are more happy than I am with a kid at Cleveland, but my strong preference is language and proximity to where I live. It depends on your personal preference. I agree that the upper grades at Cleveland aren't perfect, but my impression of ITS (based on the experience of others), is that it's not perfect at every grade either. DCUM posters seem to want perfection, but it doesn't exist. I say: decide what you care about, pick a school, and do what you can to make it work for your kid. And then try to relax. If we lived in the suburbs we'd be stuck with whatever is there (or pay or move). The "choice" we get here is somewhat illusory - not every aspect of a school is perfect or even good, even HRCS or WOTP.
