It’s not just private schools in cali. To make matters worse, they spend their repeat 8th grade years in “gym school”. |
That’s why there are age ranges for soccer. As much as you like to worry about this changing to GY, it’s not. The only time your kid will be competing with older kids is for college recruitment. That’s the case whether showcases are GY or not. You’re lucky you have a girl, you’d lose your mind at the ages of some of these former European academy players on the mens side. |
He knows it. I ask him to provide evidence and he offered nothing. |
I wish more parents had experience in other sports specifically ones that are dominated through high school to college pathways. If you saw how ridiculous a 6'1" 16 year old freshman is compared to a 14 year old normal feeshman you'd understand why you dont want no restrictions GY in youth soccer. Even if someone is trying to mask GY as old for showcases or whatever. It will be quickly exploited by parents. |
This is the delusional part. Nobody wants convoluted GY rules but you and you want it to help your kin. |
See there you go... It's the gentle push for GY Showcases while at the same time saying that a rule for young Aug birthdays to play with their grade isnt needed. GY Guy knows if a rule that Aug young birthdays must play with their grade GY Showcases will never happen |
PP didn't push for anything. You are reading into things like to the level of hearing voices. Other than you, I don't recall anybody wanting any grades issues made into rules. And more importantly, there is an agreed apon age range that the leagues coordinated on and no grade rules but the best can always play up. |

Hey Hi I’m the problem it’s me.
Original poster about GY showcases for ECNL. My sons coach made it seem like there will be rules in place and that would prevent the 20 year olds from playing or things like that. Again I don’t know all the specifics but ECNL showcases for seniors will basically be what we are calling GY (but with rules). So the majority of kids can compete their senior year. He said most likely this will trickle down into juniors as well for showcases only. But again just saying what I was told you do not have to be convinced or fight about it. |
This is why most 09 players are not going to want to play up next year everyone wants to be in the U17 showcases if they are eligible next year. |
|
The devil is in the details. Do you have more info about what "GY with rules" means? It would be interesting if ECNL forced Aug and younger birthdays to play with their grade at Showcases. This would keep the older players from playing down and all the younger players would play with their grade. Which is what college coaches want. It would also make 3 distinct levels of play Sophmore Junior Senior. |
Actually have 2 boys and we’re good either way. Gy actually helps us because you’re right, we’re competing against internationals. However, see what it’s done to other sports I don’t think it’s the best way forward |
The 24 year old freshman in college international Academy washouts are a different issue. I dont think even GY cheaters can compete with those type of players. |

Heres the answers you've all been waiting for.

If you look at the proposed US/college soccer fort at college would only be for players ages 17-23. |
