“One style wants you to kill yourself while the other wants to kill you themselves.“

Seriously a very strange comment. Not at all rooted in reality or sanity. Yikes.

I think the derivative is before troubled young men would have commit suicide.
The last decade instead some seek media attention and infamy through planned killings of others. Often people they have never even met in person or had a direct encounter or relationship with.

It’s F’d up.

And exasperated by social media.

All little kids are but boys are way worse. They’re a menace. Weaker immune systems than girls. Changing a diaper is an Olympic sport. Everything’s just messier with a boy

There’s nothing you do can do as a parent. I think some men are naturally drawn to either religious fanaticism or extremist political violence. It’s certainly not something that just happens in America. It’s a tale as old as time. Men are drawn to violence

That seems rather fatalistic / anti-men.

I'm a married woman with a son and if anything I become more radicalized every day. Men should be born in jail and forced to live their way out via good behavior.

Goodness. And you have a son? I feel so awful for that poor boy if that's your perception as a mother.

Her son will be better off than the ones with the moms who think their sons “can’t do any wrong”. Those are the moms that raise the problem men of societies

There's actually starting to be reporting out there now. You might want to go read it.

There's even a Vanity Fair article!

Lots of articles, but zero links?

Our right wing government has had him for a day (along with his Discord), and you’re still quoting the same flaccid “evidence”. Trump, who can’t keep his mouth shut about anything, has moved off the story. Have you ever managed to read a tea leaf in your life?

I’m sure Todd Blanche is flying there now to start interviewing him.

It’s so scary. Back in the day, we saw Muslim youth being radicalized in this way. Middle class kids with seemingly stable home lives would up and join Isis. You would see those stories and wonder what the heck happened. These were not your typical suicide bombers with nothing left to lose. They had bright future ahead of them. And now we are seeing this same type of radicalization across races. The ideology is irrelevant. The isolation, the hate, the cycling into despair- those are the common themes. Apparently our young men are susceptible.

It has a lot to do with feeling othered or having others guilt or resentment pushed on to you. I think some white men feel othered or out of place in the dominant society due to messages of demonization or white privilege/straight white males being colonizers or evil/the patriarchy. Muslim males also have a similar issue where they certainly are othered and demonized. Same with black men. Even with trans.

When you’re thought to be “the problem”, you tend to internalize that and act out.

Women/girls are not demonized the way men are

Interesting, I don’t know if you remember prior to the internet and social media, we had ‘others’ who actually didn’t all turn into psychopathic killers. They just went along with life being the ‘other’. People were more apt to converse with them because the internet wasn’t telling the rest of us how to be and what type of person to engage with. We were free.

You can directly link the rise of white male violence/mass shootings to the election of Pres Obama. That’s when the mass shootings started to spike in this country.. it was like instead of 9/11 we got lots of random mass shootings instead. Maybe it’s related to the rise of tech and not just Obama but it all started then. The perceived “loss of control” or becoming the “minority/marginalized” group doesn’t have to be real to be believed. There are apparently men that believed it.

Lately, during the Trump admin, we have seen the rise of a few apparently trans shooters. That’s no accident either. They feel they are losing control.

Obama and/or more likely the internet.

This is false. There was no surge in mass shootings when Obama got elected. However what did happen is that there was more coverage of mass shootings, which created a perception of a surge, along with a lot of rhetoric that Obama was going to confiscate everyones guns. Skip forward to the present and the reality is that Obama confiscated 0 guns and it was all hyperbolic nonsense from the right wing. As usual.

I don’t remember any mass shootings from the Bush years with the exception of Virginia Tech and the dc sniper

Obama got elected at around the same time Facebook rose in popularity.

Smartphones as well. Yes, 2007-2008 was the change year. I think Obama’s campaign success was due to the embrace of technology and social media but the data mining and collection of personal information and personal algorithms have probably led to more self radicalization of young males. Misfits in our society can now get full access to a steady stream of “truth” based on their perception and search history.

Mass shootings really intensified with Columbine which was mid 90s. The internet was in its infancy. Prior to Columbine they were really few and decades between.

A young adult becomes a leftist after growing up in a conservative family is very likely. Many people claim that they can’t even talk to or spend time with their conservative parents and family members after becoming leftist.

You are so desperate for this narrative. This is right on right killing. You and your ideology has been shown to be a failure. You and maga are not the good guys.

Right, the good guys have sane, admirable positions like men in women’s sports, open borders, no deportation of illegals, no cash bail, light prison sentences, rampant homelessness, free drugs for addicts, a military focused on DEI, billions of dollars spent on building a few car-charging stations, drag shows for 4th graders, and many cops replaced by social workers.

WHAT RIGHT WING ONLINE COMMUNITY?

Post a link from a reputable source.

You don’t know the shooter, so any guesses you make are your theories.

Wait a second. Immediately after the shooting your Trump hero blamed it on the lunatic left. You didn't condemn him (and other MAGA lunatics). Now that it is more and more clearer that the shooter himself was a right wing lunatic, we have to be patient and learn more about his motives. Got it.

It has taken the heat from Epstein files and Trump's many failures. And this is the reason Trump is creating all the drama around the death and honoring Kirk. C'mon. This is a MAGA hit job to make Trump look good and also energize the deplorables.

There's nothing wrong with protest and free speech and political activism. There is something wrong with violence. BOTHSIDES are not toxic. The violent one who hates empathy is the one that's toxic.

You really can't make this stuff up.

Kirk once said, "I can't stand the word empathy, actually. I think empathy is a made-up, new age term that — it does a lot of damage."

That's an awful thing to say. And even worse to add into our political discourse.

lol, physician heal thyself. Empathy is a two way street.

You're doing the same thing that the people you're arguing with are doing. Try to practice a little empathy yourself and you might realize how hard it is to accept the reality that we are all to blame.

None of what I said takes anything away from what this kid rotted by the right wing internet did or excuses anything Trump has been doing to our country.

Where did you see that the shooter was right wing?

The constant call for ‘links’ is not in good faith, because it shifts the burden of the conversation onto the other person while letting you avoid offering any position of your own. Communication scholars often describe this tactic as a form of bad-faith framing or what’s popularly called sealioning—asking for endless citations not out of genuine curiosity but as a way to derail, exhaust, or control the exchange. It keeps the other person locked in a defensive posture rather than opening space for honest engagement.

If you had provided even one link, I could see your point. But you have not provided even a single link.

What you just wrote actually proves my point. You are not engaging with what I said, you are reducing the entire discussion to whether I will jump through hoops to provide links. Communication research on online debate shows exactly this dynamic: people who demand sources in this way are rarely interested in evaluating them, they use the request itself as a way to control the exchange and keep the other person on the defensive. That is why I said the demand is not in good faith. A conversation is about exchanging reasoning and perspectives, not setting up a passfail test where you pretend you cannot respond until a link is dropped.

My position is "I don't know" and I'm not going to be convinced by an anonymous forum troll's rantings.

Yes, you just proved the point: nothing presented here will convince you, even links, due to concept bolded above.

Here's the concept again:

Communication research on online debate shows exactly this dynamic: people who demand sources in this way are rarely interested in evaluating them, they use the request itself as a way to control the exchange and keep the other person on the defensive.

People who make unverified claims are not serious or trustworthy.

Yet you probably support the current President. 🤔

There’s nothing you do can do as a parent. I think some men are naturally drawn to either religious fanaticism or extremist political violence. It’s certainly not something that just happens in America. It’s a tale as old as time. Men are drawn to violence

That seems rather fatalistic / anti-men.

Have you ever been around a toddler boy? Violence is innate in males. They like to hit, like to throw. They are socialized via the school system to not act like a caveman but sometimes nature can’t be tamed

Speak for yourself. My son was not like that as a toddler and he is not like that now either. You are perpetuating a stereotype that is harmful because it has the united effect of making men who are not like that feel like they are not “manly” which is total BS. Many men are peaceful and tolerant and non-violent. Quakers were men and they have a long tradition of non-violence. That proves that this is cultural and not genetic.

And yet, close to 100% of violent crime is committed by males.

Right but not all males commit violence and they should not face prejudice because of it. Didn’t you learn that in elementary school?
