Trump has no idea what he is doing. He has no plan. His verbal diarrhea posts on Truth Social indicate a man who is flailing and violently reacting to an opponent who has beaten him. No shipping will pass through the strait as long as Iran is threatening to attack ships. Iran will do everything to retain control of the strait because that is their trump card. They will lose without controlling it. If Trump destroys Iran’s oil infrastructure, as he is threatening, Iran will destroy the oil infrastructure in gulf states and reopening the strait won’t matter, because a lot of the production will be offline. Trump is unhinged and is willing to destroy the global economy over his vanity war. The war was a huge mistake. There is no clear endgame and it’s going to cost Republicans political support due to the rising gas prices. I’m a Republican voter and I will be staying home in November. I hope Trump enjoys two years of investigations and impeachments. He’s brought it upon himself with his reckless choice to start an unnecessary war.

There were efforts by Egypt and Oman to broker a ceasefire but events and personalities made that moot by the time the news leaked.

That’s very different than Iran wanting talks. It’s actually closer to the US wanting talks since those countries are aligned with us.

I'm no apologist for this administration but it seems clear that Egypt and Oman were doing that for their own reasons. Iran, because their leadership is smarter than ours, player the PR game and said that they had been receptive but circumstances have since changed.

Egypt hasn't had anything blown up and Oman is located outside of the Strait of Hormuz. But yes this war has harmed them both a lot and they both want this war to end more than either Trump or Iran.

New sources of financing and a realization that they know more about "modern" warfare than anybody else. The Gulf States need their help defending against drones and are willing to pay for it.
