Boys are being radicalized and desensitized. They are becoming racist, misogynistic, and violent even if you think you raised them differently. Talk to them about what they see online .

There’s nothing you do can do as a parent. I think some men are naturally drawn to either religious fanaticism or extremist political violence. It’s certainly not something that just happens in America. It’s a tale as old as time. Men are drawn to violence

That seems rather fatalistic / anti-men.

Yea, that's right. For every Clyde, there is a Bonnie.

It is also the internet. The internet is fueling this. If we cut internet access we’d see a drop in mass shootings.

I'm a married woman with a son and if anything I become more radicalized every day. Men should be born in jail and forced to live their way out via good behavior.

This is a combination of wrong and misleading. One bullet had the inscription "Hey Fascists! Catch!" followed by the up arrow symbol, the right arrow symbol, and three down arrows. You cannot divorce the words from the arrows. The arrows are a key code used Helldivers 2 to arm a large bomb. In the game, the player is a member of a militaristic regime (i.e. fascist government) who is battling aliens that the players call fascists. The phrase is a taunt of an enemy who is about get bombed with a large munition. The game is satirical and the irony in this is that the player is the fascist.

In context, "Hey fascist" does not indicate that Robinson is right-wing. It also does not indicate that he is left-wing. It simply means that he is deeply into Internet meme and gamer cultures.

+10000

He was a mentally ill person who got caught up in the toxic political climate that many of us have been caught up in recently. Sane people who fall into the hate the other "side" trap post stupid stuff online or say things we wish we could take back at Thanksgiving. Manufactured hate can drive mentally ill people to commit murder.

You aren't agreeing with the PP you are making a completely different point. He may or may not be mentally ill. No one in politics told him to kill anyone.

He's a human who shot another human being in cold blood. He's mentally ill. If you disagree with this, you need to crawl back under your rock to stop embarrassing yourself.

I think at least half of our society is now mentally ill to some extent. How about we try to figure out how to help these individuals? We’ve become such a nasty society, people are so mean to one another, more than ever it seems. No wonder everyone is mentally ill, a person can only handle so much in life. We need to support one another. Why are we so damn mean?

Social Media and loneliness. People are getting detached from humanity.

People aren't just getting detached from humanity - they are seeing those with whom they disagree as non-human, unworthy of listening to, unworthy of respect, and in extreme cases unworthy of living.

For those of you who think that Charlie Kirk "lived by the sword, died by the sword" or some other BS like that, I challenge you to live up to what Voltaire allegedly said: "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

But you won't.

The 2 concepts are not mutually exclusive.

But they are, and you just proved my point. There is a line and your failure to condemn the act is cowardly.

I condemn the killing.

Also when you get people worked up, it could stand to reason that you become a target.

There.

Exactly this. Inflammatory rhetoric gets people angry and can make you a target. Most normal people learn this in kindergarten and elementary school, when some kid says something mean and gets punched in the nose as a result, but apparently somehow MAGAs are really really really slow learners and still don't understand this.

Charlie understood it. That's why he had a security detail with him.

If those 6 people getting shot were acceptable losses for Charlie Kirk and his supporters then, then his supporters also need to treat the loss of Charlie Kirk as acceptable.

Have you ever been around a toddler boy? Violence is innate in males. They like to hit, like to throw. They are socialized via the school system to not act like a caveman but sometimes nature can’t be tamed

Different poster; it is fatalistic if we continue to do nothing. I don't think it's anti-man, I think it acknowledges a reality that is biological and extends back throughout human history.

If we could devise a healthy nondisruptive way to moderate testosterone in the human male, we could go a very long way toward solving the violence problem in human society. Obviously we want our beloved men to have testosterone - but too much is what drives men to violence, the statistics on the reduced rates of recidivism in elder men who were once highly criminal make the case pretty clearly. Substance abuse is another driver of violent crime, and the inability of many men to cope in any kind of healthy way with their feelings, particularly anger, because our society still demands a toxic masculinity that damages men as much as women.

Men aren't evil, they're just drawn to be saber tooth tiger wrestlers and we don't live in that age anymore. We have to figure out how to tweak their biology for optimal life experience in the modern age.

It’s so scary. Back in the day, we saw Muslim youth being radicalized in this way. Middle class kids with seemingly stable home lives would up and join Isis. You would see those stories and wonder what the heck happened. These were not your typical suicide bombers with nothing left to lose. They had bright future ahead of them. And now we are seeing this same type of radicalization across races. The ideology is irrelevant. The isolation, the hate, the cycling into despair- those are the common themes. Apparently our young men are susceptible.

It has a lot to do with feeling othered or having others guilt or resentment pushed on to you. I think some white men feel othered or out of place in the dominant society due to messages of demonization or white privilege/straight white males being colonizers or evil/the patriarchy. Muslim males also have a similar issue where they certainly are othered and demonized. Same with black men. Even with trans.

When you’re thought to be “the problem”, you tend to internalize that and act out.

Women/girls are not demonized the way men are

Interesting, I don’t know if you remember prior to the internet and social media, we had ‘others’ who actually didn’t all turn into psychopathic killers. They just went along with life being the ‘other’. People were more apt to converse with them because the internet wasn’t telling the rest of us how to be and what type of person to engage with. We were free.

Before women's liberation a woman was obligated to get married to have a place in society. They couldn't own property or get a credit card. Once women entered the workforce and were able to own their own houses they began to see marriage as a raw deal, which studies show it mostly is. Married women are the least happy demographic because most have to work outside of the home and do almost all of the housework and child rearing. They are opting out because they see how miserable most married women are.

This has created an entire generation of unmarried men who are not only single but being passed by in higher ed and the workplace. They sad and angry, but rather than turn inward and fix themselves they take their anger out on women. Why? Because American society is set up to tell both sexes that a man is a prize, that a woman is nothing without a man. That men should have their pick of women despite brining nothing to the table. The entitlement of the American male is woven into our dna.

This anger is starting to bubble up in these shootings and we're only going to see more and more of them because our entire society is set up to perpetuate the status quo.

No this is much more than male ‘entitlement’.

She might have higher testosterone than the average little girl, while still presenting as very feminine.

Charlie Kirk was an acceptable loss. He said people getting shot was acceptable. Any argument against that is an argument against Charlie Kirk, and he said it would be an irrational argument. Sorry, MAGA. You need to just eat this and move on.

You can directly link the rise of white male violence/mass shootings to the election of Pres Obama. That’s when the mass shootings started to spike in this country.. it was like instead of 9/11 we got lots of random mass shootings instead. Maybe it’s related to the rise of tech and not just Obama but it all started then. The perceived “loss of control” or becoming the “minority/marginalized” group doesn’t have to be real to be believed. There are apparently men that believed it.

Lately, during the Trump admin, we have seen the rise of a few apparently trans shooters. That’s no accident either. They feel they are losing control.
