Karen is one name. Can you list the names of the black men and women murdered by police?

I went down to the protests and marched from Lafayette Square to Capitol Hill and back. I can list some of the names of the black people murdered by police, but not all because the list is too long.

I can also care about white women's voices being marginalized. No, it doesn't rise to the same level. But I can find a few minutes in my day to worry about some care other things.

A middle aged white lady who doesn't want to talk to the manager because she's afraid someone will make fun of her is not even in the same plane as a black woman dying because cops in plain clothes broke into her home in the middle of the night and shot her 8 times when the guy they were looking for was already in police custody, let alone being on the same level.

Well, OP, now you know how it feels and hopefully this will teach you and other people who are offended by the karen meme to be more understanding of what people who have to deal with racism go through every day.

I hope this is teaching you to have sympathy towards people who have to deal every day with racist comments like "all blacks are criminals," "all chinese people are carrying diseases," "all the vietnamese nail techs are talking about me behind my back," "all black women are angry," "all indian kids are nerds," etc...

Insulting people in order to increase their ability to sympathize seems like a poorly-considered strategy. But, your mileage may vary.

Given that you obviously see the harm of negative stereotypes, I am not sure why you support using one.

White privilege is an important issue and those who lack awareness of it or use it to their advantage should be called out. Singling out middle-aged white women seems a bit unfair and counter-productive.

You all are participating in this thread too - you’re hardly superior.

Wow, you really put a lot of thought into those insults.

No.

Contrary to the opinion of this writer, I’d say the term is both racist and sexist.

Even worse, this is mostly women tearing other women apart.

I never thought it was racist but this writer totally glosses over the fact that it’s sexist and provides no real reasons as to why it’s not (she says it’s not with no further support for the idea).

I was not saying that middle aged white women think these things, I'm just saying that people make stupid comments like this all the time, maybe OP can understand how they feel now. And yes, they were horrible stereotypes and insults, I came up with them quickly, I apologize, I didn't mean to offend anyone. I'm a minority myself. I just think it's ridiculous for someone to be upset that someone is making fun of them and hell, now maybe they know how it feels when people come up with blanket racist stereotypes about you.

Not sure why you're calling just me out when plenty worse has been said here.

Seriously. Black women are getting shot dead in their beds, but OP Karen is upset about the logistics of her smoothie pickup.

This is the definition of whataboutism. This thread is about the sexist nature of the term. There are other threads you can join on police violence if you want to talk about it. Police violence is also an important topic but it doesn’t take away from sexism as another issue facing society.

Whataboutism gives a clue to its meaning in its name. It is not merely the changing of a subject ("What about the economy?") to deflect away from an earlier subject as a political strategy; it’s essentially a reversal of accusation, arguing that an opponent is guilty of an offense just as egregious or worse than what the original party was accused of doing, however unconnected the offenses may be.

I hope you enjoy getting paid less than men for the same job. I don’t.

I don't. And I don't enjoy getting paid less than white women either. But as history demonstrates, white women will have me join their cause to fight for their rights, and when it's time to fight for me, they disappear.

What do you think would help change that?

I ordered curbside pick up from a local smoothie shop a few weeks ago, before we were in phase 1 opening, the restaurant was advertising curbside Pick-up. I ordered my smoothie online, however, When I drove to the shop to pick it up there are a line of people inside the store to order and a line waiting (Inside as well) at the counter to pick up their smoothies. A year ago if this happened, pre-Karen meme, I would have said something along the lines of aren’t we supposed to be doing curbside? Why is everybody in the store? This time I just walked away.

Hmm....I am ''Karen'''s age but it doesn't cross my mind to comment other people behavior ( unless it's violent or malicious, indeed). Why don't we all just mind our own business?
People came to the store came to get some covid? So be it. It's their lungs, not yours/

This seems to be a fundamental misunderstanding of the Karen meme, at least in its original meaning. A Karen is a certain type of entitled white woman of a certain generation who weaponizes white privilege to punish others, typically POC or service workers, whose behavior she disapproves of. In my circles (professional WOC), this has only been used in this context. It has never been used to simply refer to assertive middle-aged white women, but it seems that OP and you are using it in this way. At best, it's a misunderstanding of the term.

She started yelling and filming. Trader joes intervened and called the police. When someone is doing something wrong I don’t care what color you are, I’m speaking up.

And you never paused to think that maybe she is hungry? Or offer to pay for her food? Why do people steal food? Just for fun, right?

I hear that some people justify looting, too ))))

Stealing is that, stealing.
