big deal. WTA is always gonna to bat for Serena. Serena is many times more powerful than Carlos Ramos. |
Article doesn't say that exactly. It says that men are frequently given a warning for coaching and they fuss and shut up. The article does state that there might be a double standard that needs to be addressed but this was not about coaching. And on court when losing was not the time, plus what does her smashing raquet has to do with previous warning? Why did she not go nuts right then? |
Exactly, but not by screaming on the court. |
No, i used to love women's tennis in the time of Evert, Navratilova, Graf and Seles. I more or less lost interest when the Williams were dominating the game because the matches were too lobsided. |
I know, how dare those black women come in and be better than everyone else. Don’t they know their place? |
What a load of sexist bullshit. They couldn’t just leave it at attacking her as a player, they had to attack her as a mother too? That writer is a piece of garbage. |
Jesus Christ, not everything is about race! |
At this point people are just going in for the kill to get clicks and views. Most of the people responding to articles and tweeting and posting about this don't even watch tennis. Everyone wants to put Serena in her place. When people have so much hatred for someone they don’t even know or even watch play tennis regularly then there is something else going on. Athletes go off on umpires all the time and nobody pays attention. Why is this different? |
Just to be clear, since a lot of people seem to be commenting without having watched, the guy changing his shorts did not do it on the court. He ran off to a private changing area. |
Yeah, I can’t believe we’re still having this discussion 19 years after Brandi Chastain ripped off her jersey and celebrated her soccer joy in her sports bra. God, I hate sexism. And racism. |
You are full of some kind of vitriol. Why? The winner was a black woman amidst dozens upon dozens of white WTA players. I think what pp above is saying is that when Williams sisters started winning everything, tennis got boring. Men's tennis is facing the same lack of new good players, it is constantly 3 of them. We watch sports for excitement, unexpected victory, and we had that on Saturday, and the poor girl got told by USTA President Katrina Adams, also AA woman, "not the result we were hoping for." If you are on Serena's side fine, but please chime in if you think that was perfectly fine to be told during the trophy ceremony? |
Nope, try again. I couldn’t care less if they were black, white, yellow, or even green for that matter. What I didn’t enjoy was the mostly one-sided matches they played. Nothing against them as players, obviously, because they were that great, but to me it was boring to watch these 6-1, 6-0 matches. I’d rather watch a well contested match than one with a 99% known outcome. |
The problem with people like you is that you will accuse anyone of being a racist anytime they accuse a black person of anything, regardless of whether it was warranted. You’re just as bad as genuine racists because you only see one side of any issue and you’re intractable and blind to the facts. |
yes, a lot of people commenting on this even never watch tennis. but most of them are cluelessly supporting serena doing nobody a favor. serena had a tantrum and it would not have been a big deal if a bunch of idiots didn't try to make her a hero because of it. that is what is drawing the reaction, not her calling an umpire a thief (which, to reiterate, on its own wouldn't even carry a point penalty). |
