ECNL forcing Brave & Union Partnership

McLean carries HUGE rosters. I don't see how merging is going to work. How are you merging rosters of 30 with roster of 22. That's 52 kids. And, sorry, you can't tell in 2-3 ID sessions who is a 'main' player which also varies by coach's preferences and style of play. Where are all the excess kids going? Not sure at the recruiting years many will want lower than ECNL/GA/MLSn, etc.

It truly sucks for the rising Juniors who will be in peak recruiting year next year.

How?

Email went out in February stating rolling offers starting March and existing players would be the priority as their philosophy “is to build from within and supplement from outside”

Offers didn’t go out until late April/May once ID sessions were over. They had to make sure they had everyone from “the outside” they wanted before committing to existing players.

While it’s understood this is part of the process, doing this as late as they did left some without a team to go to.

We didn't get any email about rolling offers or anything.

I see one of a few options:

1. They actually go with a 2 Team ECNL structure similar to FC Stars or NC Courage/NCFC, everyone is happy

2. They go with huge rosters think 22 for U13 and 30 for U15 and older.

3. They go with modest rosters, 18-20 for lower age groups and offer everyone else Dual roster spots (think 10 per age group)

4. They do the right thing and take 18-20 and cut everyone else free or give them strict Non-Dual roster ECNL-RL offers which very few will take at U15 or above.

Who here thinks they'll do the right thing? anyone?

Wouldn't it be hilarious if NONE of this happens and it turns out that people spent 31 pages debating about some rumor.

They aren’t merging the teams. They are merging the clubs. Then the top girls from both teams will form next year’s team. Yes, this means that many on the bottom of those rosters will be moving either down or looking for other clubs. It also means that instead of having say 6 great players on each team, with others filling in, you get 12 great players in your starting line-up, making a stronger more competitive club. Better for the clubs, better for the top players, not better if you are on the bench or were hoping to move up.

You're assuming that current starters don't head for the exits to make sure they get on a team where they will start rather than risk losing playing time in a merger. It will take a few years to sort out, but there is no reason to assume that girls coming up through VYS or BRYC will stick with McLean rather than try out everywhere at U13 or that McLean will end up with the best of those players

See how SYC and Mclean partnership worked out. It was not balanced at all. You all are dreaming. This will be chaotic.

This whole thread is such a waste of time. I can’t believe people are actually writing paragraphs explaining the merger set-up.

None of this is happening so stop wasting your time

These partnerships could never work unless equal. Eventually breaks down to individual clubs over time.

For option 1, why would they merge 2 teams just to keep 2 teams?

If you think it’s not true then stop reading.

Until this morning, I was in complete agreement with you. I’m sorry to say that is no longer the case. ☹️. It is happening although I don’t know the details yet. But it does complicate the spring for many players, mine included.

PDA has several teams in ECNL is any of these that great? Nope, why other clubs can’t mirror the PDA model?

Well will not be spring issues, rather the fall. Likely Brave and Union will complete the spring and then proceed with the merger.
