Your last point is important. People should realize that, rather than dismiss old people.

I think Ellen was the best option.

So many of the others are damaged (from their childhoods or previous relationships).

That is going to influence their ability to have healthy relationships.

A person isn't "damaged" because they didn't have an easy childhood or great relationships.
What a terrible thing to say.

Did you see how Gerry hugged Leslie when she was sad and he said "you're my girl."

The only way the producers would put that in the show at this point is to mis-direct the public into thinking Leslie is the winner. So, that alone makes me think that Leslie is definitely NOT the winner.

I stand behind my belief that Theresa will in fact be the winner.

I think Faith or Leslie would make good Bachelorettes (at least from what we know at the moment).

Didn’t he say the exact thing to Ellen (who he eliminated)?

I think Theresa is not attractive at all. Faith has a good figure but is not pretty.

I am not saying looks are the must important thing, but he has his pick.

Right?!? She's average at best.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Science says it is not. Beauty is actually relatively objective. There is a now legendary study that was done using data collected from that crazy old website Hot-or-Not. And bottom line, we all see beauty in people about the same way. As far as coupling up goes: attractive people prioritize attractiveness and generally end up with other attractive people. Less attractive people focus less on looks and more on other qualities like sense of humor, loyalty, kindness, etc. Of course attractive people are plenty funny, kind, and loyal too -- that isn't the issue. And there will always be outliers. But beauty is objective people, and attractive people tend to pick attractive people.

Beauty is completely subjective, and we can see that in this very thread.

I know it’s a TV show but flying in a helicopter and spending the day on a yacht paid for by production—this is not daily life for this group of people—they are not Jeff Bezos or Barbara Corcoran. Of course they had a great time, but what does that prove about compatibility? It will be interesting to see Faith’s life away from the “mansion” and dates, and all of theirs, for that matter, and how compatible they might really be.

She's tiny and cute. Gerry the protector digs that.

Do you prefer traumatized? In my experience , growing up in a dysfunctional family (think addiction or abuse), does damage children. It leaves its mark. Read up on ACES if you are unfamiliar with this fact.

Someone who is in her 60!s and never been treated kindly by a man? Who describes herself as having had no parents, basically.
Would that really be your first choice person to bring into a happy, well adjusted family? (If that is what he has)

I am not blaming them. Just saying that I do not see it as a selling point, when he is choosing from many options.

Right. How can they separate the sources of their feelings of exhilaration? How many women in their sixties and seventies get expenses expensive gowns and full make and built in companions. Television crews and compliments. Of course it is heady.

Maybe she "looks good" compared to Ellen, but not compared to Faith and Leslie.

Is he really gonna pick a wife after dating multiple people for a few weeks after losing the love of his life for 40 something years? This whole show seems like bullshit.

Also you guys fighting over looks is a waste of time. People pick ugly people all the time because they are complacent and put up with their shit so it’s whatever.

That was a poorly designed study that was not replicable. Pop "science" clickbait.

Nevertheless -- if you put a picture of, say, Margot Robbie next to, oh, I don't know, Honey Boo Boo's mother ... who is better looking? Beauty is not purely subjective. There is such a thing as the golden ratio. There is such a thing as symmetry. Plenty of people are not beautiful. Theresa on The Bachelor is one of them.

Some of you are very hard on women's looks!

I would hope that a man in his 70s doesn't prioritize looks over other qualities anyway. Yes there needs to be attraction. But long-lasting compatibility in one's golden years depends on a lot more.

Theresa and Gerry are the same age, and both lost their spouses after marriages lasting 41/42 years. Faith and Leslie are more than a decade younger than Gerry and haven't had successful romantic relationships thus far.

If Gerry picks Theresa, I don't know if it will work out in the long term because their lives and families are in different parts of the country. But I do see why they would form a connection and understanding that is deeper than the other relationships.

Of course the premise of the show is bogus. I stopped watching the younger version long ago because it is awful to pit the women against each other, force “deep” feelings based upon a few staged dates. But, US reality TV had never been a model of character or mental health

I just worry what teens/college students “learn” from it.

It is very much influenced by culture and media.

+1 I think she looks GREAT for 70! What you are seeing is normal AGING! The face doesn't hold all of it's youthful fullness/muscle tone as it ages.

I volunteer at a hospital/outpatient clinic and I see a LOT of people who are younger than Theresa who are in far worse shape.

Theresa would do better with a side-part on the hair --- maybe even make it shoulder length or chin length. I don't think the weight of her hair is doing her any favors framing her face. She has a huge smile. I think she might look nice with some highlights too. They say you should go lighter as you age. I think that's right... the single-tone very dark hair on most of the ladies does not look so good.

Faith is 10 yrs younger than Theresa -- so not a fair comparison. I think Leslie is 6 yrs younger than Theresa.

I think they all look lovely and all are in excellent physical shape --- which is pretty unusual. I look at my peers in the 50's and nearly everyone is heavy. So, you have to give some credit to these ladies for staying active and keeping their weight at a good level -- it's not typical.
